“Suchmos The Blow Your Mind 2025” is the first live performance with an audience in five years and eight months. This is the 2-day performance of Yokohama Arena, where a total of 200,000 tickets were flooded with entries for a total of 200,000 tickets, in an attempt to witness the relaunch of their activities since February 2021. This is probably proof that the scene they repainted in the 2010s and the miracles did not fade during the absence, and that the influence of these things was escalating in various ways, while the hunger for them was fostered. From the announcement of his revival last year to this day, expectations for Suchmos have only been rising. This article will show you the first day of the two-day performance, Saturday, June 21st.

…As the venue approaches, what I remember is HSU, who passed away in the year that it announced its hiatus. I’m sure everyone is like that. Not only was it his first live concert in a while, but it was his first live concert since he passed away. Just 20 minutes until scheduled, I entered the arena and saw The Birthday’s “Calendar Girl” play at the venue. I see, HSU isn’t the only one who passed away during this period (by the way, on the 2020 tour that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he also planned to play against The Birthday. Is this a coincidence? Suchmos’ first reboot, Sunburst, is the same title as The Birthday’s last album).

YONCE

Anyway, as YONCE, who appeared in the encore, said that some audiences probably have lost someone close to them, while others are fostering new lives. Everybody’s life has encounters and partings, and each audience member must have come to listen to this music with their own feelings in mind. As the six leading characters on this day appeared on stage, a cry of “Welcome back!” was heard, TAIHEI played the keys with a touch of stroking, and then the live performance began for the first time in a while from “Pacific.”

TAIHEI

He is suddenly taken over by his new song, “Eye to Eye.” It gives the impression of being a gorgeous R&B with TAIKING’s chic cutie, and like “Whole of Flower,” which was released the other day, I feel that Suchmos has already made it to a new location with his new EP “Sunburst,” which is about to be released. The momentum accelerated around “DUMBO”, which had a faster tempo than the original, and it felt like it was running quite a bit. No, I don’t know if it was actually the case or if I was just too excited. Anyway, the OK drums of this song have a lively feel, and the passion that will make TAIKING play even more exciting. Rather than “playing the guitar,” I felt the spirit of making sounds from the cells all over my body.

TAIKING

Still, he’s an extraordinary vocalist. The word “pride” is probably used at times like this. YONCE’s vocals were impressive from the start, and it was amazing that they couldn’t say whether they were present or not. And that energy continues unabated until the performance is over. The TAIHEI’s face-opening expression, as if looking at the entire band from the audience, is also impressive, and I am attracted to the play that seems like it’s fun to play with these six members. With their signature song, “STAY TUNE,” the intro phrase alone gave them cheers that resemble an angry yell, making it clear that they have returned to the scene. The YONCE sings with a somewhat nihilistic expression and the ensemble that burns your skin with a tingly, cool look.

Well, maybe I should have mentioned it first. It is impossible not to mention the presence of Yamamoto Ren (LAGHEADS), who participated as a support bassist, as an important factor for the last two days. In the later MC, he said, “We started gathering with these members about a year ago,” but his play was well blended into the sound of Suchmos, and his supple and light sound irresistibly shaking his body. I was even more drawn to the “808” area, and as I was listening to it somehow as if to follow the bass, YONCE also let out a cry of “Ladies and Gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you to Onbas, Yamamoto Ren!”, and cheers suddenly erupted from the audience.

Yamamoto Ren

“I’m not sure if I should say I’ve returned, or that it’s a new start, but I’m grateful for coming to this place today,” he said, and then headed to “PINKVIBES.” From here on, I’m only getting a lot more excited. The energetic drums played by OK and the intense bass that shakes your hips, “Burn” has a strong red and black footage that gives a violent impression, and it seems like the temperature in the arena has risen even further. To be honest, I have very little memory of the super danceable “Alright.”

OK

“Today is the summer solstice. The longest day is the day, so maybe there are people who don’t usually come here, right? That’s how it feels.” (YONCE), and the lyrics to “MINT” resonate even more, leading to the recently released “Whole of Flower.” What a cool thing about this song (I think the temperature that had just risen has returned here). It’s probably just like Suchmos’s style of Philly Soul, starting with a keyboard that oozes deep into the heart and then being heard with a lower overall number of sounds. YONCE’s vocals were light and easy to fly over the clouds, and I think it was the most lively performance of the day.

Next is the new song “Marry” that will be included in “Sunburst.” YONCE sings while playing acoustic guitar, making it seem like a rock-like love song that incorporates folky nuances. From there, the bluesy guitar connects to the sentimental “OVERSTAND”. This performance is somewhat dreamy and gives off a sense of excitement that springs from within. However, the new song, “To You” completely changes the scenery. All the members are excited and excited…or rather, it’s an exhilarating funk number that makes you listen to with a rejuvenating momentum. The whole ensemble is lively and it’s a song that will make you laugh (I can’t believe this song won’t be included in Sunburst!). By the way, no matter how much you try to be, YONCE is cool because it makes you hear sexy vocals if you tremble.

Kaiki Ohara’s new instrumental song “Latin,” which is mainly used as an instrumental song, is a surprise quote from Jagatara’s “But Demo DEMO”. YONCE sings, “Stay move as you think of it,” and lets you get into the sound and wiggles your body…this could be said to be an unusual instrumental number in the set list that day. The performance stopped halfway through, and each member spoke about their feelings for the live performance. I think OK cried out, “Let me say a word to the other people who couldn’t come here today. Idiot! Thank you!”, which spoke more eloquent than any other words.

Kaiki Ohara

The performance was finished with the song “GAGA”, “VOLT-AGE”, and “YMM”. “VOLT-AGE” was engulfed by the dynamic sound and thought he would not be able to get out of it, and “YMM”‘s bass solo was so cool that I was dejected. I’m sure the audience of over 10,000 people who packed into this arena must have felt that way. It is not clear whether the six-person system, including the Yamamoto League, will be for a limited time, or whether it will become permanent. However, I would like to hear the performances with this member again. In fact, it’s a great performance that makes you think the more you try, the more you grow.

YONCE, who appeared in the encore, spoke about her feelings about HSU, saying, “What I lose will never go back. So I want to remember and keep on thinking about it forever. Why not close my eyes for a moment and take a deep breath?” After a few seconds of silence that seemed to make you hear the voices in their hearts, she replied, “I’ll give it to my stupid friend,” and performed her new song, “Stand By Mirror.” Rock and roll, which has a lyrical mood, resonates with a strong throbbing after the previous MC. When you think about it, their music is passionate and yet has a delicate touch that gently touches the folds of their hearts. That’s why tears and smiles look great in this music. Finally, I played “Life Easy.” The smudged tone reminded me of twilight was warm, and I felt that the song “sing along with your own words” and “Let’s dance” was paired with the previous “Latin.”

When interviewing young bands, Suchmos’ name is really mentioned. Over the past five and a half years, new bands have been flying off one after another from the scenes they have cultivated. But the real fun is still in the future. All of the new songs performed on this day were wonderful, and I felt a brand new feeling. With the release of the EP “Sunburst” on Wednesday, July 2nd, Suchmos will be holding an Asian tour “Suchmos Asia Tour Sunburst 2025” that will take place in 13 cities, including overseas performances, starting from the end of October. There’s certainly a new wind blowing. Welcome back and the journey begins again.
