VAN HALEN’s 10th studio album, “Balance,” released in 1995, marks its 30th anniversary this year. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of this masterpiece, which has been ranked number one on the US album charts for four consecutive years and won multi-platinum discs, it has been decided that a luxurious 5-disc expanded edition consisting of a two-disc CD, Blu-ray, and two-disc analog discs will be released!
“Balance (Expanded Edition)” will be released overseas on August 15th and in Japan as a Japanese version with domestic imports on August 27th, and is the latest in the luxurious box set series following the release of “For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (Expanded Edition)” last year, and like the previous album, it includes 2023 remastered songs from the original album, songs not included in the album, and valuable unreleased live music. Currently, unreleased live audio for “The Seventh Seal” is being released in advance from this expanded edition.
This expanded edition is a collection of five discs in an analog-sized package: a CD containing the 2023 remastered sound source of the original album and a two-disc vinyl set, as well as a CD containing songs they had not included in the album that they had provided on the soundtrack at the time, an unreleased live recording that captured the live performance held at Wembley Stadium in London in June 1995, and a Blu-ray containing music videos containing unreleased footage. Just like the previous work, it also comes with a booklet featuring valuable photos from the time and memorabilia. In addition, the two-disc analog record includes 12 songs from the original album on three sides, and the four sides are etched from the “Balance” era to ensure the highest quality sound on the analog record.
The songs not included in the album on disc 2 of this album are “Crossing Over,” which was a B-side track and was also used as a bonus track for the Japanese version at the time, and “Humans Being” and “Respect The Wind” that were provided on the soundtrack for the movie “Twister.” The disc also includes eight unreleased live performances of a total of eight carefully selected songs, including valuable live versions such as “Feelin'” and “The Seventh Seal,” from the live performances that were aired on the BBC at the time, which took place at Wembley Stadium in London in June 1995.
In addition to restored promotional videos of songs such as “Can’t Stop Lovin’ You,” “Amsterdam,” and “Not Enough,” the Blu-ray also includes unreleased live footage of “The Seventh Seal,” which filmed a live show at the Target Center in Minneapolis in July 1995.
Released on January 24, 1995, Balance was the 10th studio album with Bruce Fairbairn as producer, and the last film Sammy Hagar (Vo) participated in. The masterpiece, which combines hard rock and pop “well-balanced” to give you a new sense of the band’s unwavering personality, includes hit songs such as “Can’t Stop Lovin’ You,” “Don’t Tell Me (What Love Can Do)” and “Not Enough.” From the album 5150 released in 1986 to Balance, the album was ranked number one on the US album charts for four consecutive works, and the achievement was to bring all four albums released in the lineup, including Sammy Hagar, to number one in the US.
