BADSISTA, a DJ/producer based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, will visit Japan and appear in the club night series “MIDNIGHT EAST” by Spotify O-EAST in Tokyo and Higashimaya on Friday, August 22nd.
Rafaela Andrade, also known as BADSISTA, who made a comeback with her self-titled EP in 2016, is known for her sound that combines house, techno and bass music with Latin American genres such as Bailefanki and Denbo, which are becoming more and more popular all year round.
This evolution has not stopped, and in recent years he has released works from the important Colombian label TraTraTrax, and has also provided music to famous artists, including Brazilian multi-talented Linn da Quebrada and Kelela. Furthermore, through her co-founder of feminist collective Bandida, and the event series “BADSISTA AND FRIENDS,” which started last year, she is also committed to empowering women and queer artists in Brazil’s underground music scene.
BADSISTA, who is visiting Japan for the second time in about a year, is supported by DJ POIPOI, who has worked for the London label Night Slugs, and is currently based in Shinjuku 2-chome, selecting dance and black music from around the world. Shioriy Bradshaw is a sound selector that explores unique musical styles across genres and borders, and its performance at Boiler Room Tokyo in 2024 was a hot topic. While working as a DJ crew tomodachi100, Bailefanki Kakeko is also working hard to act as a bridge between Brazil and Japan, appearing at online parties in Brazil, providing mixes, and actively inviting Brazilian artists. A total of four groups will play on the O-EAST 3F.
On this day, Higashimaya floor features the label/club GOODWEATHER, based in Nagoya, which emits deep bass, and two artists affiliated with CRZKNY and DJ noonkoon came to Kyoto (they are currently releasing split EPs every month). Local members will be appearing on DIYZ, a veteran DJ who plays mainly Amapiano, Afro-bass and house, and MoEPiKA, who freely controls a wide range of genres, including Bailefunk, UK funk, and bass music.
