At 11:30am on the 19th (Sat), the first day of Kumamon Square EXPO, Kumamon appeared in Kumamon Square, a torch hanging out with special Kumamon Square costumes, full of customers from both Japan and abroad. The staff swears, “I vow to liven up Kumamon Square EXPO for fun,” and Kumamon lights the torch. The opening event has begun.
The host announced that the grand theme for the 12th anniversary project, Kumamon Square EXPO, will be “Kumamon Square’s Past and Future,” which will look back on Kumamon Square’s 12-year history, and will also present the future “connecting to the world more.”
As part of a “Review of 12 Years of History,” the “Kumamon Director’s Office,” which was before the renovation of Kumamon Square in 2023, has been revived for a limited time, and in the aisle outside Kumamon Square, there are a variety of “Kumamon life-size panels” dressed in various popular costumes. A special photo spot has appeared that gives you a sense of the history of Kumamon Square.
Regarding the future “connecting to the world more”, Kumamon Square’s stage has been evolved into a stage that supports simultaneous translation and subtitle display. Using a technology called “YYSystem” developed by Aisin Co., Ltd., the words spoken by the host through the microphone are turned into letters and displayed immediately on the screen inside the building. This service is easy to understand for customers with different listening environments and people from overseas, and allows customers to enjoy Kumamon’s stage, and Kumamon was impressed by how amazing it is.
In addition, many other projects were announced, including limited commemorative merchandise, limited food releases, and an Instagram campaign, and the building was filled with cheers.
At the end of the event, we received a message in preparation for the 12th anniversary of Kumamon Karakumamon Square, “Everyone around the world will continue to look forward to the evolved Kumamon Square!”
