The collaboration EP “Azul” between R&B singer Lil Summer and producer/beatmaker grooveman Spot was released today, Wednesday, July 30th.
In addition to the already pre-release “Flowers” and “Cry4U”, it also includes four songs, including two new tracks. The delicate, core vocals of Lil Summer and the swelling beats of grooveman Spot are organically blended together, creating a rich groove that transcends genres.
The lead song, “Upgrading!”, is a danceable track based on House. The repeated lyrics, “I’m upgrading in every single way / What I really need is gonna stay,” symbolizes the central message of this work, with the theme of self-renewal and letting go.
The end of the EP also includes a cover of Sade’s classic “Keep Looking.” The jazzy, urban grooves of grooveman Spot and the shiny and elegant singing by Lil Summer bring to life with an approach that combines respect for the original with a modern sensibility.
This work is an attractive collection of sophisticated sounds and layers of emotion, with a coexistence of coldness and kindness, including predecessors such as “Cry4U,” which quietly depicts the afterglow of a broken heart and regrets, and “Flowers,” which lyrically describes the natural form of love. As the title suggests, the entire work features sophisticated sound and layers of emotion, where coldness and kindness coexist.
In addition, a release party for this work will be held at Nakameguro Solfa in Tokyo on Friday, August 1st. In addition to live/DJs by Lil Summer and grooveman Spot, the night will feature elite DJs who cross the scene. Also check it out.
