Born in 1952 in Tokyo. He has been active as a studio musician since high school, and joined the Sadistic Mika Band as a drummer in 1972 while attending Musashino Art University. After that, in 1978, he formed YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA (YMO) with Haruomi Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto, which left a great influence both domestically and internationally, and in 1983, the band broke up. Afterwards, he continued his solo activities and was active in the unit THE BEATNIKS with Keiichi Suzuki and pupa formed with Tomoyo Harada and Hiroshi Takano. He also works irregularly under different names, such as SKETCH SHOW, a unit with Hosono, and HASYMO and YMO, which are SKETCH SHOW with Sakamoto. As for his solo career, he has consistently released albums since 1978’s “Saravah!”. In July 2013, they released an original album “LIFE ANEW” that expanded on the band’s sound together with a new band “In Phase” that included James Iha and others. In January 2014, they will hold a special one-night-only live performance as the band “Yukihiro Takahashi & METAFIVE”, which includes Keigo Oyamada (Cornelius), Yoshinori Sunahara, TOWA TEI, Tomohiko Gondo, and LEO Imai. This stage performance was well received, and he has since appeared in multiple live events. They wrote the ending theme song “Split Spirit” for the movie “Ghost in the Shell ARISE border: 4 Ghost Stands Alone” released in September of the same year, and the following year, in 2015, they changed their group name to “METAFIVE.” In 2022, they will celebrate their 50th anniversary as a musician, and in September of the same year, an anniversary live performance was held featuring artists they are close friends with.
