■ “I was able to spend a fulfilling time while surrendering myself to the passion and carefulness of the work of everyone on site.” (Kamenashi Kazuya)
The final episode of the drama “Destiny” (every Tuesday from 9pm) will be broadcast on June 4th.
The drama has now wrapped up filming with Ishihara Satomi, who plays the lead role, and Kamenashi Kazuya, who plays Nogi Maki.
Prosecutor Nishimura Kanade (Ishihara) of the Yokohama District Public Prosecutors Office Central Branch and his college sweetheart Nogi Maki (Kamenashi). The last scene they filmed together was an important one that spelled out the end of their fateful relationship. On this day, too, the two were particular about delicate expressions, and discussed with the director as they filmed. When they finished filming safely, they had looks of relief on their faces.
And with this scene, Kamenashi wrapped up filming before Ishihara. At that moment, Ishihara presented Kamenashi with a bouquet of flowers, saying “Thank you very much!”, and a huge round of applause erupted on set.
Kamenashi smiled and said, “I was able to spend a fulfilling time surrendering myself to the passion of everyone on set and the carefulness of their work.”
Reflecting on playing Maki in her college days and then in the present 12 years later, she said, “Personally, I’ve had a turbulent life as Maki, so I hope she’ll be happy.”
■Ishihara Satomi is overwhelmed with emotion as filming wraps up! How does it feel to have completed her first drama series in three years?
Ishihara, who marks her return to a serial drama for the first time in three years with this production, said, “I was nervous because it was my first serial drama since giving birth, but the lighting was amazing, the camerawork was precise to the millimeter, and the footage was full of Director Shinjo’s attention to detail…I trusted everyone and followed along during the filming period. And thanks to everyone, I was able to once again realize that ‘this job is really fun’ and ‘I love acting.'”
He also expressed his gratitude as the leader of the cast to his stellar cast, including Kamenashi, saying, “I had the opportunity to act one-on-one with almost all of the cast members, and it was a very fulfilling time.”
Ishihara, who was in a drama series for the first time in three years and felt the pressure of being the lead, played the heroine Nishimura Kanade beautifully. Although she occasionally had to hold back tears, she bowed deeply with a big smile full of a sense of accomplishment, which was a touching wrap-up.
■Finally the final episode! What will become of Kanade and Maki’s fate after 20 years?
This series, filled with the passionate thoughts of Ishihara and Kamenashi, will finally reach its final episode on June 4th.
The “Environmental Energy Corruption Case” in which Kanade’s father, Tsuji Eisuke (Sasaki Kuranosuke), who was a prosecutor, was accused by Maki’s father, lawyer Nogi Koichiro (Nakamura Toru), leading to the tragedy of him taking his own life; the accident involving Oikawa Kaori (Tanaka Minami); Maki’s disappearance; and the “Nogi Residence Arson Incident”. Everything has been connected since 20 years ago! Kanade finally arrives at the “truth”, but at the same time, the time comes for the resolution of her revived love with Maki…
Don’t miss the final episode where the whole truth will be revealed.
■ Comment from Satomi Ishihara (role of Kanade Nishimura)
It was my first time in three years since I last worked on a drama series after giving birth, so I was a bit nervous, but I thought, “Is a drama series really that hard!?” But when I got on set, it was fun! I realized once again that I really do love acting. The set was like a movie, with great lighting, camera work adjusted to the millimeter, and Director Shinjo’s attention to detail. I could feel everyone’s passion and attitude towards their work from the footage, and I thought, “I can do my best for this footage!” and followed everyone during the filming period. To be honest, there were times when I felt like I was going to give up, but thanks to everyone, I was able to feel, “This job is really interesting after all.”
I had one-on-one time with almost all of the cast members, so I had a very intense time with everyone.
There were many elements of love, but there were also many moments of suspense, stinging, and heart-pounding moments. In the suspenseful parts, I wanted to portray a prosecutor who is strong and independent, but also considerate and able to think from the other person’s point of view. I hope that many people will watch the series until the end.■ Comment from Kazuya Kamenashi (role of Maki Nogi)
It was my first time to shoot a serial drama in a quick shoot, so I had no idea about the final style, but I was able to spend a fulfilling time by surrendering myself to the passion and careful work of everyone on set. I am truly grateful.
We shot from the first episode to the last one, going back and forth between episodes, so it felt like it was over in the blink of an eye. I played Maki from over 10 years ago, and although I’m sure there are more scenes of Maki now, I was really impressed by her college days, which are the core of this story. The young Maki is the basis for the Maki of today, so the filming of her college days, when we built that up, left a really strong impression on me, and the time we all had fun together felt really “real.”
Each episode of this drama has its own highlights, and there are many interesting developments that lead to the next episode. In that sense, I think there was a lot of thought put into it, and I feel that the work has been further developed thanks to everyone who has received it.
We discussed the grand scale and power of the images with everyone on set and took our time to create this work, so it has heart-warming scenes and profound scenes… I think it’s a work that a wide range of people can enjoy and immerse themselves in the worldview. And personally, I’ve had a tumultuous life as Maki, so I hope she finds happiness.
