toconoma released their new single “Open World” today, June 5th (Wednesday). The music video was also released.
This is the first new song in about 1 year and 8 months since the release of “Futurez” in 2022. It was first performed at the 15th anniversary solo live held at Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall in Tokyo in August 2023, and was introduced as an “emo new song” because the title of the song had not been decided at the time. Every time it was performed at a live show after that, it became a familiar song to fans as the “emo new song.”
The sound is a modern interpretation of 70’s crossover, with an emotional chorus based on the context of J-POP, and a finish that sounds like a human-powered reproduction of house music. The tight and danceable drums and bass, floating guitar and bouncy keyboards make this a song that celebrates the start of a new world.
The music video was directed by Akihiro Odagiri, who has worked on a number of Toconoma videos. It shows the real lives of each member and the band’s story, and is like a documentary that conveys the message of enjoying life to the fullest, including the efforts, determination, and suffering of adults who seriously enjoy music on the weekends.
In addition, a new visual for toconoma designed by member Kotaro Ishibashi was released today. It depicts toconoma in the style of Daddy Long Legs.
