Following his record-breaking success at the Brit Awards in March this year, RAYE has released his new single “Genesis.” Not only does it bend the boundaries of genre, it also transcends the usual notion of a “single.”

Produced by multiple Grammy nominee and award-winning Rodney Jerkins aka Darkchild (Beyonce, Michael Jackson, SZA), the new song “Genesis.” is a three-act work. Raye brings her emotional and raw lyrics about the origins of the universe to a perfect performance with her divine voice, accompanied by triumphant strings, horns, sweet harmonies and inspiring snares. Inspired by big band, jazz, hip hop, R&B, gospel and contemporary pop, the new song evolves into a new chapter and a new musical renaissance.

RAYE explains:

“Nina Simone once said, ‘It is the artist’s role to reflect the times.’ This quote means everything to me and I believe the best way I can do that is to express my art through music. There is so much darkness and pain in the world we live in. I wanted to create something as deeply personal and raw as possible about my own thoughts and the world around me.

This song is a 7-minute piece that I have been creating and examining for the past year and a half, experimenting with different genres and sonic expressions. The overlapping layers and lyrics are based on the message “Let there be light”. It is a prayer, a plea, a cry for help, and I sincerely hope that it will bring hope to those who need it most, just as this music does for me.”

In March of this year, RAYE made history by winning an unprecedented six Brit Awards. It was the most awards ever won in a single year, and a groundbreaking achievement for an indie singer-songwriter at the UK’s biggest music festival. In addition to being the first woman to win “Songwriter of the Year,” she also won “Artist of the Year,” “Album of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” Best New Artist, and Best R&B Act. Furthermore, at the awards ceremony, she performed a medley of songs from her critically acclaimed debut album, making it an epoch-making performance of her career.

In May, he won the prestigious “Songwriter of the Year” award at the “Ivor Novello Awards 2024”. He also received rave reviews for his performance at the “Coachella Festival” which he performed for the first time this spring.

British singer-songwriter RAYE is one of music’s brightest stars. With eight UK Top 20 singles, 5 billion global Spotify streams, an Ivor Novello Award and a string of songs for some of the biggest names in music, RAYE has been on a fast track to stardom since her 2014 debut. Her eagerly anticipated indie label debut album, My 21st Century Blues, debuted at number 2 in the UK Official Albums Chart and became an instant sensation. The result of creating an album that was true to her own heart was the birth of an unexpected smash hit, the song that will become synonymous with 2023: “Escapism.”

“Escapism.” was not only the best-selling single by a female artist in the UK in 2023, but also RAYE’s first number one in the UK and in the US, it was ranked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and certified platinum. She has supported Lewis Capaldi, Kali Uchis, and SZA on tour, and has played 130 headlining shows, including a scorching set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. The defining moment of her career came at the Royal Albert Hall. Her stage, backed by a 50-person orchestra and gospel choir, was broadcast on a BBC special and critics called her “the most talented artist since Adele and Amy Winehouse” (Telegraph). This year, RAYE performed “My 21st Century Symphony” in front of a sold-out O2 Arena in front of 20,000 spectators. She played the game in the pop world and rose to prominence, but she bet on herself and won.

She also performed an amazing show on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts.
