■Travis Japan’s Miyachika Kaito appears as a special guest to try out the special items!
“Chan House” will be broadcast on Fuji TV from 11:05 on June 8th (Kanto local).
This variety show features three “chans” – Ucchan, also known as Uchimura Teruyoshi; Nanchan, also known as Nanbara Kiyotaka; and Tetchan, also known as Degawa Tetsuro – who have been competing with each other in the same entertainment industry and agency since they met as classmates at vocational school, and who take turns appearing each week.
On June 8th, the popular segment “Chanto! Kokoro MAX” will air, in which the staff thoroughly pursues the “little obsessions” of celebrities on a certain theme that they think “could be this for me,” and goes all out to find the one item that is the “MAX of their obsessions.”
The theme of this episode is “Japanese sweets.” The staff will use every possible method to find the best Japanese sweets from the MC, Kiyotaka Nanbara, and the guests, Shigeki Nakanishi and Sayuri Matsumura.
Minamihara, who loves Japanese sweets, chose “Ohagi” this time. He seems to be particularly particular about the “anko” that wraps the mochi, and he wants medium to small azuki beans and coarse bean paste. He also likes anko that makes him feel at ease when he eats it.
The staff began searching for Japanese sweets shops in Tokyo to help Minamihara relax, but because the sweets are so simple, they had a hard time judging the subtle differences in the sweet bean paste… So they decided to ask for help from the president of the Japan Anko Association.
Based on information obtained from the chairman, the staff heads to Hokkaido to search for rare azuki beans. A wandering bean paste craftsman appears to bring the azuki beans closer to Minamihara’s specifications! Will they be able to create the perfect ohagi that will put Minamihara at ease?
The Japanese sweets that guest Matsumura chose were “Taiyaki”. Matsumura loves Taiyaki so much that he eats one at least once a week, and he is particular about the “thinness of the skin”. He likes it to be as thin as three sheets of paper and have a crispy texture. Furthermore, he requested that the bean paste inside have a strong sweetness and a sticky texture, and that it be smooth, which is rare for Taiyaki.
To fulfill Matsumura’s request, he visited various taiyaki shops, from long-established shops to mobile shops, and finally found a crispy skin the size of three sheets of paper, but the inside was made of whole bean paste… So he asked the shop owner, Mr. Tsujii, for help and asked him to make the inside smooth bean paste.
However, the sticky texture of the smooth bean paste contains a lot of moisture, and it is difficult to maintain the crispness when it is as thin as three sheets of paper. Has Matsumura’s MAX “Taiyaki” been completed?
Nakanishi, who is addicted to Japanese sweets, chose “Mitarashi dango.” Having loved mitarashi dango since he was a child, Nakanishi wanted a chewy, elastic dango with a strong sweet and spicy sauce, with the sauce evenly distributed inside the dango.
First, they go looking for mitarashi dango, which are dumplings filled with sauce, and find that there are only eight shops in the whole country (according to the program), four of which are in Osaka. Nakanishi goes to Osaka, where he is from, to try four different types and discover the mitarashi dango that satisfies his tastes.
However, wanting people in Tokyo to try the highly detailed mitarashi dango, the staff asked for the cooperation of a Tokyo store that makes mitarashi dango using dango and sauce that meets Nakanishi’s specifications.
Kaito Miyachika of Travis Japan, who will be the guest for the special taste test, also said he will be eating Japanese sweets during rehearsals. After trying Nanbara’s special MAX ohagi, he said, “This (ohagi) is good for the back of your hand!”, and after trying Matsumura’s special MAX taiyaki, he said, “It’s as elegant as sitting on a handkerchief on the train.” Miyachika described the deliciousness of the sweets in his own unique way, but which Japanese sweets will he choose?
