UK-based Barbican Estate releases new EP “Viscum” and holds release party in London

Barbican Estate released their new EP, Viscum, today, Friday June 14th.

Barbican Estate has been active in the UK since 2022. This is their first release in about a year and a half, and as the title suggests, it is a work full of vitality, referring to the sacred tree mistletoe. The first half is composed of uplifting rock sounds, and the second half is composed of ambient sounds of stillness and movement. The work was inspired by the “stream of consciousness” used by William Faulkner and others, Western paintings by Van Gogh and others, and the scenery of Hampstead Heath, a historic park in London where the members currently live. This work, which mixes the desolate British landscape with oriental atmosphere, will be released on record and digitally.

A release party for this album will be held at The Grace in London on Thursday, June 20th, with performances by Isabelle de Jour of London psychedelic duo JIZ, and Deadbeat Painters, a Japanese unit formed by Nobuki Akiyama, who also works as the guitarist/vocalist for DYGL, and Cony Plankton.
