■It has been chosen as the theme song for the popular drama “Shinjuku Field Hospital,” written by Kankuro Kudo and starring Eiko Koike and Taiga Nakano!
Southern All Stars has announced that they will be releasing their new song “Koi no Boogie Woogie Night” digitally. The song will be the theme song for the Fuji TV drama “Shinjuku Nosen Byoin” which will begin airing on July 3rd.
Southern All Stars will celebrate their 45th anniversary of their debut in 2023, and have been very active with their new song releases and outdoor concerts, which have attracted a lot of attention. Every year, as the anniversary of their debut on June 25th approaches, fans get excited and wonder, “Is something going to happen?” On June 15th, Kuwata Keisuke’s regular radio show “Kuwata Keisuke’s Gentle Night Out” (TOKYO FM network 38 stations / every Saturday from 11pm) aired, and announced that the theme for the June 22nd episode would be “Anything you want! ~It’s the broadcast right before June 25th, but there won’t be any new songs on air or anything, so don’t get your hopes up, SP~”.
Is this the truth, or is it just a grandiose pretense? The uncertain truth of this led to various speculations among listeners, but at noon on June 22nd, the topic was suddenly changed. The program was broadcast under the theme “Just before June 25th!! Important Announcement SP ~We’ve written a new song, so please listen to it! SP~”, and while many listeners were paying attention, Southern All Stars’ new song “Koi no Boogie Woogie Night” was suddenly aired for the first time.
“Koi no Boogie Woogie Night”, the first new song in about nine months since “Relay ~ Mori no Uta” released in September 2023, is a dance number that combines the disco sound that was popular from the Showa era to the early Heisei era with the EDM sound of the Reiwa era. The punchy rhythm track, the sound that mixes nostalgia and newness, fun and sadness, the lyrics that depict the feelings of a pathetic man full of pathos, and Kuwata’s vocals that can be freely changed to different tempos create an indescribable groove and uplifting feeling.
It was also announced that “Koi no Boogie Woogie Night” will be released digitally from midnight on June 25th, which is the anniversary of their debut.
“Koi no Boogie Woogie Night” has been chosen as the theme song for the Fuji TV drama “Shinjuku Field Hospital,” which will begin airing on July 3rd at 10pm. This will be the first time in 20 years that Southern All Stars will be in charge of a theme song for a Fuji TV drama, since “Ai to Yokubou no Hibi,” the theme song for “Ooku: First Chapter” (2004).
“Shinjuku Field Hospital” is a funny and tearful “emergency medical” entertainment set in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, starring Eiko Koike and Taiga Nakano, with an original script by Kankuro Kudo. As it is Kankuro Kudo’s first medical drama, it has become the most talked-about drama of the summer, causing a big stir on social media and online news as soon as its production was announced.
It’s common for Southern All Stars to go into a period of recharging after making a big move, but with new songs now revealed, is it possible that they will continue moving forward as a band? Stay tuned for further updates.
■ Comment from Yusuke Noda (Fuji Television Network, Inc., Drama and Film Production Department) of the drama “Shinjuku Field Hospital”
My wish came true and Southern All Stars agreed to perform the theme song!
When I first listened to the song, I was excited because it was a nostalgic and uplifting dance number, and I thought it was the perfect song to conclude the album!
This is the first medical drama written by Kankuro Kudo, and is set in the hottest place in Japan right now, Kabukicho. Look forward to the chemistry between this work and Southern All Stars!
