Katori Shingo will be the host! “The Path of Art and Jewelry: Cartier and Japan over 50 Years” to be broadcast

■ It is because Cartier and Japan were destined to meet that they have been able to continue to exert their strength to this day and produce beautiful jewelry for over 170 years.” (Katori Shingo)

“The Path of Art and Jewelry: Cartier and Japan Over 50 Years” will be broadcast on BS TV Tokyo from 1:30 pm on July 6th.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Cartier opening its first boutique in Japan. The program will introduce various stories that connect the Maison with Japan, including jewelry inspired by Japanese art.

The program will also feature footage from the exhibition currently being held at the Tokyo National Museum Hyokeikan, “Cartier and Japan: Half a Century of Progress “MUSUBI” – A Dialogue on Beauty and Art,” and will unravel the two bonds between Cartier and Japan, and between the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art and Japanese artists.

The program’s host is Shingo Katori. Katori is not only a singer and actor, but also a painter, and in 2017 he was commissioned by Cartier to create a painting. The work is also on display at this exhibition.

Katori will ask Matsushima Masato, head of the Tokyo National Museum’s curatorial planning department, about the highlights of the jewelry on display, as well as interview the artists whose works are on display, tracing the two bonds between Cartier and Japan, and between the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art and Japanese artists, and the path that has led to this.

■ Comment from Shingo Katori
