Kawashima Umika appears in the first episode of the drama “Aoshima-kun is mean,” starring Watanabe Shota and Nakamura Anne! “I was grinning inside at the lines they said (laughs).”

■Kawashima Umika plays an important character who initiates the “agreement romance” between Aoshima-kun (Watanabe Shota) and Yukino (Nakamura Anne)!

It has been revealed that Shima Umika will be appearing in the first episode of the new drama “Aoshima-kun is Mean,” which stars Watanabe Shota (Snow Man) and Nakamura Anne and will start airing on TV Asahi’s Oshidora Saturday slot from July 6th.

This work is the first film adaptation of the popular comic “Aoshima-kun is Mean” (Yoshii Yuu/Mecha Comic Original), which was ranked first in the 2020 “Mecha Comic” annual ranking and has exceeded 130 million cumulative views (cumulative downloads within the Mecha Comic service, including free downloads as of June 2024). It stars Snow Man’s Watanabe Shota and Nakamura Anne.

The story depicts the “love pact” that begins with a small lie between Aoshima Mizuki (Watanabe), a younger, fasting guy who has no interest in romance, and Katsuragi Yukino (Nakamura), a 35-year-old dried-fish girl who has given up on romance.

Kawashima plays Asako, a high school classmate of Yukino’s who is also a bride who is getting married in a week. She had promised Yukino that she would attend the wedding with her boyfriend, but she had no idea that her love had already ended… When Asako called Yukino to make sure, Yukino remembered the promise and panicked. She decides to ask Aoshima to play the role of her boyfriend for one day, even though she doesn’t think it will work.

As Kawashima says, “I’m in a position to support Aoshima and Yukino’s relationship, or rather, to watch over them,” Asako is an important person who will help start the two’s “agreed romance.”

It will be interesting to see what kind of interactions will take place between Kawashima, who will show off her breathtakingly beautiful bridal look with her outstanding transparency, and Aoshima and Yukino, who will be attending the wedding as “fake lovers.”

■ Comment from Umika Kawashima
I personally love heart-warming dramas, so I am honored to be able to take part, and I have been looking forward to the day of filming ever since I heard about it.
I was in a position to support the relationship between Aoshima and Yukino, or to be more like a guardian. When I was on set, I heard the two of them say their lines and I was grinning in my heart (laughs). Also, they prepared a really nice dress for me, so I got excited and I was shooting with a strange feeling.
Ann-san was very friendly and kind. She was like an older sister to me, and a really nice person. At first, Watanabe-san was very slender, and I thought, “Maybe it’s because of the role of Aoshima-kun…I wonder if he’s a cool person…” but it seemed like he was quite shy, and he gradually became more playful (laughs). It was a little interesting to see that he sometimes jokes around and sometimes feels embarrassed.
On set, they were particular about each and every scene, and it was particularly impressive to see them sharing ideas and researching while filming, asking each other, “How can we make everyone’s hearts flutter?” I think it’s a work that everyone who watches it will enjoy a lot.
