■ “I thought it was a wonderful album that was filled with musical impulse and melancholy, and was very much like Suda-kun.” (Ishizaki Huwie)

The second wave of comments has arrived from artists who participated in Masaki Suda’s third album “SPIN,” released on July 3rd.

Comments are from seven people in total, including Ishizaki Huwie, who has produced many hit songs with Suda and who also produced “Sadistically Living” on this album; band member Inoue Atsushi (showmore), who participated in the arrangement of Fuji TV’s 2024 Athlete Support Song “Kujira”; Ono Yudai, who produced “S’mores”; Kohei Shimizu, who has supported Suda’s musical career from the early days and was involved in the production of “Yours,” the theme song for the NTV Saturday drama “The Best Teacher: A Year Later, I Was Killed by My Student”; Shin Sakiura, who arranged “Magic Hour”; Yanaka Atsushi (Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra), who has collaborated with Suda in the past and provided “Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story”‘s second opening theme “Rurouni Kenshin: A Swordsman Romantic Story”; and Hoki Genku (Bialystocks Vo/Gu), who wrote “Two Comets” specifically for the album.

Even if you’ve already listened to all the songs, try experiencing the world of “SPIN” once again with these comments.

※M8 “We Must Live Sadistically” Lyrics and Composition
When I write songs with Suda-kun, I usually also cook dinner at the same time. When we were making “Goodbye Elegy,” we had motsunabe.
I spilled a boiling pot of offal on my pure white carpet and had to throw it away.
In contrast, this time’s “We Have to Live Sadistically” featured kombu-jime.
I went to two supermarkets to find fish to make kombu-jime. But they didn’t have the fish I was looking for, so I went to the third supermarket just before closing time and finally found some sea bream and sweet shrimp, which Sugata-kun made into kombu-jime for me. They were delicious.
I was happy because I felt like I was a part of Suda-kun’s band during this song writing and recording process.
Shudai’s exotic arrangement was also wonderful. Another good memory was created for me.

I thought it was a wonderful album filled with musical impulse and melancholy, typical of Suda-kun. I’ve shared many wonderful moments with him while writing and singing various songs together, but when I listen to this album, I feel like I’m on a journey to reach the utopia that Suda-kun imagines, and it makes me happy. Please look forward to “We Have to Live Sadistically.”

※M2 “Kujira” Arrangement
Writing songs is almost always like a long and steep climb,
On rare occasions, all the gears mesh and a masterpiece is born.
I think that’s exactly what the whale was like.

One night just before summer, Maki, Taihei and I gathered in Shibuya.
I’ve been friends with Taihei for 15 years, dating back to our school days, and I’m also close friends with Maki, so much so that not a week goes by that we don’t see each other, both for work and for personal reasons, but this was the first time the three of us had met together.
We drank a lot, talked a lot, and then with the same momentum we all rushed into the studio late at night with canned chuhai in hand, and when we all started making music together for the first time, it took shape in an instant, to our surprise. Then Suda-kun spun the word “whale” into the song as if he was breathing life into it, and a miraculous summer was born.

I played the piano with a sincere heart, as if facing Suda-kun’s straightforward singing.

I would be happy if many people could receive these endlessly straightforward sounds.

※M11 “S’more” Lyrics, composition, and arrangement
13 songs that show Masaki Suda’s dedication to music! As a music lover, I enjoyed listening to them. I also participated in the production of “Smores” and was knocked out by his earnest attitude. “Here’s this,” “Wow!” “What do you think of this?” “It’s so good!” I had a great time, just like a band entering a studio for the first time.
The two of them put together these lyrics with particular attention to the texture of the words, so be sure to listen to them aloud!
Congratulations on the release of the album! I hope this album, which will be with you in all situations, whether sad or happy, will touch the hearts of many people! Thank you to Taihei for connecting us and for the wonderful arrangement!

Comment from Kohei Shimizu
※M7 “Yours” Lyrics and composition
At night, on a bench in the studio, as light rain fell, we discussed the worldview of the lyrics.
Every night, the two of us would sit at home and work on arranging songs,
There were many images that came to my mind, but the first thing that came to mind most clearly was the lyrics that I was agonizing over,
The two of us wriggled outside the studio, wondering if there was any way out.
As I lay on the concrete floor, I saw a building peering out from between its cracks.
The sky was an unbelievably clear blue.
It was a redemptive moment, like “Yours.”

This wonderful album seems to strongly reflect the musician Masaki Suda.
I’m sure they will continue to change, turn around and freely pursue their musical journey, and I can’t wait to see their path and prospects.
It seemed to me like an immortal beacon that resonated with me to the core.
Congratulations on the release of your album!
I look forward to continuing to enjoy Masaki’s beautiful and free-spirited wanderings!

※M10 “Magic Hour” Arrangement
Congratulations on the release of your third album, “SPIN.”

I regularly listen to their music as a listener, so I was really happy when I received the offer!
I still remember the impact I felt when I first heard the demo sung by Suda, and I felt guided by that as I continued arranging the song.
Even during the recording, the power and emotional richness of the singing was on a completely different level, and I was moved by the overwhelming singing voice, which was on a completely different level from just being in pitch or timing.
We are actually close in generation and from the same hometown, so it was fun to have local talk.
I can confidently say that “Magic Hour” is a great song. I hope you enjoy it.
I’m really thankful to you!

※M3 “Ruro’s Doll” Lyrics
When I was talking with Suda-kun, I felt nostalgic for some reason.

Just before entering society, I felt as if a mixture of emotions – expectation, confidence, anxiety, and uncontrollable desires – had been unearthed.

In short, I felt that Suda had a very clear sensibility.

The feelings I had linked with the main character of “Rurouni Kenshin.”

It reminded me of the way he fought and sacrificed himself in order to bring in a new era for someone else.

It’s scary, but it’s about jumping into the “life-giving night sea” where it all begins.

I once again thought that it might just be a matter of taking a single step.

Thank you so much for inviting me this time, Suda-kun. I am so grateful that Skapara entrusted me with the lyrics, music, and performance.

I was amazed that he was able to make all these colorful songs his own with such realism.

As an actor, I suppose that’s only natural since you play a variety of roles in a variety of productions, but I think that when it comes to singing, you need to have your feet firmly planted in the real world, even more so than with acting.

It was clear to see that Suda-kun has accurately assessed the current world and these difficult times and is steadily moving forward.

I would also like to learn from Suda-kun.

“SPIN” is the best album.

※M1 “Two Comets” Lyrics and Composition
This time, I was invited by Ochi Shunsuke, who also plays bass in Bialystocks, and because I also have a connection with my mentor, director Aoyama Shinji, and Suda, I was able to participate in the album by providing a song for “Two Comets.”
As comets glide through space, some draw beautiful perfect circles, some draw distorted ellipses, and some suddenly lose their orbit and fly off somewhere. It’s interesting that what happens on Earth and in space is not much different. Just as there are partings and meetings, when a shadow falls, its light shines. It was a luxurious time to be able to create a song with Nishida Shudai, Taihei, and everyone, while being spoiled by Suda-kun, who is amused by any shape we draw, as we revolve around the planet like a board game.

The opening lyrics of the album’s closing song, “Mono no Aware,” “If I feel like it, I’ll come and see you again,” make everything feel lighter. “SPIN” is filled with the unchanging feelings of humans, from long ago in the Heian period to the Reiwa era.
We, who are watching the delayed light of the moon and the sun from the earth, always seem to be thinking of something when we see the light of the past. Movies and music are like creating Frankenstein, combining the past in pieces and reviving it through electricity, making us laugh, cry, and get angry.
Suda-kun’s eyes and voice, which occasionally look at us from the patchwork of light, affirm the past and future he is carrying on his shoulders. I would be happy if I could be someone who supports even a little of what Suda-kun is carrying in his work. As a listener, I am very much looking forward to seeing what kind of shape the 13 dances will draw and where they will land.
