Singer-songwriter Higuchi Ai has released the digital single “Dare.”
The song is a new song written specifically for the theme song of the movie “Who’s That Girl?” which will be released on Friday, July 19th.
The song is unique to Higuchi Ai, who does not compromise on how she fits into the story. Kenta Sakurai was in charge of the arrangement, which further enhances the worldview of the movie.
The film is the latest work by director Takashi Shimizu, who has been a driving force in J-horror, having worked on the smash hit “Ju-on” series and whose Hollywood remake of “The Grudge” was released worldwide, making it the first Japanese director to top the US box office. The film inherits the DNA of “Minna no Uta,” which was talked about last year as a “truly scary horror film.” This is a school horror film in which “that girl” who shouldn’t be there in a classroom of five boys and girls taking supplementary classes during summer vacation causes a strange stir. This is Shibuya Nagisa’s first leading role in a film and her first full-fledged acting role, and she plays Kimijima Honoka, a substitute teacher in charge of the summer supplementary classes. The students taking the extra lessons are played by a fresh cast of actors, including Hayase Ikue, who was selected through auditions to co-star alongside Aragaki Yui in the hit film “Ikoku Nikki,” currently in theaters; Santoki Satoshi, who voiced the main character in Miyazaki Hayao’s “How Do You Live?”, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature; Araki Hiha, who played the young version of Arata Mackenyu’s role as Yukishiro Enishi, the series’ most fearsome enemy, in “Rurouni Kenshin: The Final/The Beginning;” Imamori Maya, who is about to appear in the fifth installment of the “My Graduation” project, a young talent discovery and training project that has garnered overwhelming support from Gen Z, “The Two Hearts: A Town of Snow,”; and Aoi Shun, who played the childhood of the yakuza played by Suzuki Ryohei in “The Blood of Wolves Level 2.” Additionally, the cast will include a diverse cast including actor Shota Sometani, who was the first Japanese to win the Marcello Mastroianni Award (Best New Actor) at the 68th Venice International Film Festival for his role in the film “Himizu,” and who has appeared in a number of popular productions in recent years, such as “Sanctuary” (Netflix) and “Brush Up Life” (NTV), as well as Matsuo Satoru, Ohara Masako (Kuwabata Ohara), and Makita Sports.
In conjunction with the release of the much-talked-about movie, Who’s That Girl?, the music video for “Who’s That Girl?” will premiere on the official YouTube channel of Ai Higuchi. It will be released on Friday, July 19th at 9pm Japan time.
The jacket artwork and music video for “Dare” were done by Kouai Koudou/yui.
We hope you enjoy Higuchi Ai’s new song through the song, the movie, and the music video.
A new live performance has also been announced. With his latest album, he recently completed his five-month “Miseisenjo” tour, which toured around the world, including four solo performances overseas, but a special additional performance in Tokyo has been suddenly decided. The tour, titled “HIGUCHIAI solo tour 2024 (Miseisenjo) Additional Performance Special Edition ~Saigo ni Hitotsu~” (One at the End), which is a play on the song “Saigo ni Hitotsu” from the album, will be held on Friday, August 23rd at Kitazawa Town Hall in Tokyo. Tickets are currently available for pre-sale, so be sure to catch his return from his great voyage.
