Sony Music Entertainment Inc. has collaborated with the popular music unit “Last Train Near Online” to announce the winning entries in a manga contest that depicts a story of a single character’s life just before the last train.
Monogatary.com is a novel posting site where users can freely post stories to themes given by the site manager every day, and have fun reacting to them in various ways, such as adding illustrations and comments. In the past, Monocon 2019 attracted a lot of attention with the birth of the “novels turned to music” unit “YOASOBI,” which has been extremely successful, with their hit song “Idol” reaching number one on the global charts.

In this project, we called for submissions of stories based on the original manga story, in which a man or woman takes place just before the last train, based on character illustrations drawn by Nanakawa, the illustrator of “Just before the last train” for “Online.” It took some time, but after repeated selections, we have decided on the grand prize winner, and we would like to announce it.

“Last train or less online. Comments from the judges”
We received many submissions based on just two pieces of information, “Almost the Last Train < Online." and "Mysterious character illustration.", but we chose this piece because we think it has an exquisite way of playing the line between fantasy and reality and will expand the world of "Almost the Last Train < Online." in a new direction!
I think many people can empathize with the characters’ thoughts, worries, and suffering about “living.” The excellent descriptions and word choices were also very moving.
I am really happy to have come across this work and that it is being made into a manga!

A unit formed around Harucha and Nanakawa that began activities in December 2019. The worldview created by Harucha’s singing voice and Nanakawa’s illustrations has gained a lot of support, especially from young people in their teens and twenties, and in addition to releasing music, they have also attracted attention for their activities, which can be carried out online or offline, including publishing an omnibus novel collection and holding collaborative cafes.

Vocalist of the unit “Shuuden Mangai Online.” She mainly posts cover songs on YouTube, and as of December 2020, her YouTube channel has over 1.25 million subscribers and over 150 million total views. She is a singer with many different talents, including writing a collection of novels.

Illustrator for the unit “Last Train <= Online."
He excels at illustrations using vivid colors and comic-style figures. He likes clippings and motifs with music video-like compositions, and in recent years, his personal works have focused on people dressed in street fashion.
■sakuma.
An unidentified young creator. Online until the last train. He is mainly in charge of the music.
