Miso Extra releases new song “Slow Down” in collaboration with DJ Boring, a track that incorporates UK garage

Miso Extra, a London-based artist with roots in the UK and Japan, released his new single “Slow Down” on Wednesday, July 31st.

Miso Extra is attracting attention for her lyrics that use both Japanese and English, and her unique sound production. Her first release of 2024 is a UK garage track co-produced with Australian-born, London-based DJ Boring. The song was born during a time when Miso Extra felt isolated from her friends and lonely. During that time, she often went for walks, and the bird calls heard in the song were recorded in the field.

Miso Extra has this to say about the album: “When DJ Boring first brought me this beat I knew it was something special. For me this track evokes the exhausted euphoria of the end of a night out and the trance-like desire to go home. When I was tracking the vocals for this song I was really frustrated because I couldn’t get the delivery or intonation the way I wanted, so on one take I blurted out ‘I don’t get it’. That ended up being the sample used in the song.”

A music video by Claryn Chong, who was in charge of the creative for last year’s single “2nd Floor,” has also been released.

“I love working with Claryn Chong and we really click when it comes to visual references. When we discussed the concept for this video, a lot of our shared love for Wong Kar-Wai came up and you can see traces of that in the video. It was really great that Claryn and her team were able to find a way to visually interpret the movement of the song,” Miso Extra said of their partnership.
