leift released his new single “Overexposure” on Wednesday, August 7th, which means “whiteout.” This song will brighten up the August nights as they begin to cool down. He will be holding his first high-resolution live performance at Aloft Tokyo Ginza from 9:30pm on Friday, August 16th.
■ Musicality
Leift’s new song “Overexposure” is derived from the photography term “whiteout.”
The song sarcastically compares “shadow = negativity” and criticizes adults who do not accept their shadow as being completely “worthless (0 bytes).” The negative emotions we tend to harbor can become “shadows” that add depth to our charm if we accept them and move forward. Leift sings that even if there are people around us who hurt us with thoughtless words, we should support each other and share our delicate emotions, turning them into positive “light.”
The sound is an up-tempo electronic track that suits the summer nights of the city, so as not to give the first impression of a cryptic message. It is a refreshing song that makes full use of Leift’s minimalist and thick synth bass, and vocal chops and voice effects to enhance the vocals.
Overexposure, which has been finished in a wide range with 24bit / 96,000Hz high-resolution specifications by mastering engineer Stuart Hawkes, will be debuted at leift’s live performance to be held at Aloft Tokyo Ginza on Friday, August 16th. The live performance will also be held in high-resolution specifications, allowing you to enjoy the loud sound that permeates your entire body.

■Comment from the artist himself
I wrote a song about “efforts under pressure from the strength of the majority,” something that everyone will encounter when they go out into society and live. What I want to convey in this song is not sarcastic, but that the suffering we experience every day can become a sure source of nourishment if we all join together. I hope that this song, which I wrote with the intention of finding friends who can change things together during this time of change, will reach everyone who shares the same aspirations.

■leift profile
leift / singer-songwriter
The band’s sound is characterized by relaxed vocals, delicate and orderly lyrics and melodies, and a mix of elegance and roughness. The name leift comes from the left hand, which is the dominant hand, and the past tense of leave, which means letting go of everything except what is necessary. The “i” at the center of the name represents the idea that “the center of oneself is always oneself.” This is a project in which composer and music producer KOTARO SAITO verbalizes his innermost thoughts. His second single, “leaves,” has been chosen as the theme song for the TV anime “Yurei Deco.” In April 2023, he released his first album, “Beige.” In April 2024, he released his collaborative album, “Citrus,” and held a release party with six guest artists at Aloft Tokyo Ginza. He has been selected as a playlist cover for “Electropolis” and “Blue Tangled” on Spotify, and as “BREAKTHROUGH JAPAN” on Amazon Music.
