■ “The character I play, Kairi, is a mysterious man who works as a cameraman during the day and a bartender at night, but he’s a people-pleaser and is very popular with the ladies (laughs)” (Yuta Tamamori)
Starting in October, TBS’s Tuesday drama slot (every Tuesday from 10pm) will air a completely original drama starring Nao, “I Want to Punch That Scum.”
■ An original script for a serious boxing love comedy
The main character, whose boyfriend runs away from her on her wedding day, meets a mysterious blonde man at the lowest point in her life. After meeting him, she decides, “I don’t want to be made to cry by worthless men anymore!” and starts boxing to change herself.
This is a hardcore boxing love comedy with an original script that depicts the two men as they take both love and boxing seriously.
■ Her first lead role in a TBS drama! Nao plays the protagonist, a woman in her 30s who aspires to become a professional boxer!
The protagonist will be played by Nao, who will be making her first lead role in a TBS drama. Nao gained attention after playing the protagonist’s best friend in the NHK morning drama series “Hanbun, Aoi.” Since then, she has played a wide range of roles, from eccentric characters to adorable daughters, and has quickly become well-known.
Not only has he appeared in numerous TV dramas, but he has also made his presence known in movies, and is set to star in a film soon. He is also expanding his horizons to include stage performances and commercials, making him a rising star.
Nao plays the main character, Sato Hokomi, a 29-year-old serious and straightforward person. Her boyfriend runs away just before their wedding and they break up. She also finds out that he has been cheating on her, and she resolves to never date a scumbag again.
At that time, she meets the kind and friendly Kairi Kuzuya. She feels that it is fate that he helps her when she is at her lowest, but later she learns his surprising true identity. Influenced by Kairi, Hokomi decides to change herself and starts boxing. After that, she becomes involved with Kairi in various ways, and eventually she finds out what happened in Kairi’s past…
■The mysterious blonde man will be played by Tamamori Yuta, who will be appearing in a Tuesday drama for the first time in three years!
Yuta Tamamori (Kis-My-Ft2) will play the mysterious blonde man, Kairi Kuzuya. This will be his first appearance in a TBS drama in three years since the 2021 Tuesday drama “Oh! My Boss! Love is a Separate Volume.”
Kairi, played by Tamamori, is a people-pleaser who quickly becomes friends with anyone. He works as a photographer during the day and a part-time bartender at night, and meets Hokomi as the photographer for her wedding. Kairi gently reaches out to Hokomi, who is depressed after breaking up with her boyfriend, but Hokomi still does not know his true nature.
Kairi seems to know some of the members of the gym that Hokomi belongs to, and he lives in an unusual place. Also, he seems to be carrying a big trauma from a past incident.
Tamamori, who has previously received acclaim for his excellent performances in a variety of roles, breaks new ground in this production by playing a mysterious man who drives all the girls crazy.
The boxing love comedy “I Want to Punch That Bastard,” featuring an aspiring boxer and a hottie man, will start airing in October.
■Nao’s Comment
TBS’s Tuesday dramas are known for their romantic comedies, so I was very honored to be asked to appear in such a charming time slot. Also, the addition of the sport of boxing as a theme was a combination I’d never seen before in a drama, so I was excited to see what kind of work it would be, and I was very attracted to it.
Reading the script, there are many parts that make me feel excited, and I think boxing is very deep. There are many powerful and wonderful lines, and I felt that the script also had some “fun”, so I think there may be things that change while acting on the spot, and I’m very excited.
I hope to be able to convey to everyone the charm of boxing and the beauty of building trust with people. It’s a love comedy with a sweaty feeling like you’ve never seen before. Please look forward to it!Comment from Yuta Tamamori
When I received the offer, I was happy but also felt pressured. There are a lot of fans of the Tuesday drama slot, and it’s been a while since I’ve done a heart-pounding drama, so I honestly felt like I had to do my best.
The character I play, Kairi, is a mysterious man who works as a cameraman during the day and a bartender at night, but he’s a people-pleaser and is very popular with women (laughs). A lot of things are revealed gradually, so I hope you enjoy the process as well. Kairi is a character I’ve never played before, so I want to do my best and give inspiration to the viewers.
Although it is a romantic comedy, it also has many messages and I think it is a passionate work. I hope you will look forward to it.■ Producer: Tomura Mitsuki Comment
It annoys me, but for some reason it bothers me
I thought I hated it, but I started to like it more and more.
You’ve never had that experience?
This Tuesday’s drama, “I Want to Punch That Scumbag,” is a completely original story that follows a woman’s growth through boxing and her crush on a scumbag.
Nao will be playing the main character, Sato Hokomi. From the planning stage, I knew I definitely wanted Nao to play this role, so I’m very happy that she accepted. Hokomi is the main character, and is straightforward and clumsy. Nao’s personality brightens up those around her just by being there, and makes you want to cheer her on. I feel that Nao’s personality is exactly like Hokomi’s every day. Nao has also been practicing boxing since before filming began. Please look forward to the spirited boxing scenes.
The role of Kairi is played by Tamamori Yuta. The character of Kairi is a mysterious and elusive man who shows a carefree smile one moment and a dark expression the next. Tamamori himself is a very attractive person with a contrast between when he is smiling and when he is serious, so I thought he was perfect for the role of Kairi. He also underwent physical transformation to play Kairi, and created the character with great care. Please enjoy this new side of Tamamori that you have never seen before.
The word scum is often used in a negative sense, but I think that every human being has some scum part, or flaw, and that’s why we can support each other and grow to love each other.
This story is a romantic comedy about two people who overcome their shortcomings by supporting each other. Just like boxing, love is not something that can be achieved overnight, there are difficult times and happy times, and I believe that a relationship is forged by continuing steady practice. The cast and staff will work together to create a drama that will send that message to viewers and inspire them to do their best tomorrow!
A scumbag love comedy that will make your heart flutter! Please look forward to the Tuesday drama “I Want to Punch That Scumbag”!
