KATSEYE, a global girl group from HYBE x Geffen Records, will release their debut EP "SIS (Soft Is Strong)" on Friday, August 16th!

Universal Music LLC (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Fujikura Hisashi; hereinafter referred to as “Universal Music”) will release the debut EP “SIS (Soft Is Strong)” by KATSEYE, the first ever global girl group formed using K-POP training methods, on Friday, August 16th.

KATSEYE is the first global girl group ever formed using K-POP training methods. The group is made up of six members aged between 16 and 21, from various cultures: Daniella (from Atlanta, Georgia, USA), Lara (from Los Angeles, California, USA), Manon (from Zurich, Switzerland), Megan (from Honolulu, Hawaii, USA), Sophia (from Manila, Philippines), and Younchae (from Seoul, Korea).

The Los Angeles-based members of KATSEYE were among the 20 finalists selected from 120,000 applicants for The Debut: Dream Academy, a program jointly run by South Korean entertainment giant HYBE and Universal Music Group’s Geffen Records.

This is their debut EP with 5 tracks, released by HYBE x Geffen Records. The title “SIS (Soft Is Strong)” reflects one of KATSEYE’s core beliefs that softness is strength, and also expresses the sisterhood that the girls, who come from diverse cultural backgrounds, have built together.

The first single, “Debut,” is a rhythmic pop song that showcases the individual characteristics and vocal talents of each member. It was written by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, Omar Feddi, Tyler Spry, and Grant Boutin, and was produced by Ryan, Tyler, and Grant. The music video, filmed in Medellin, Colombia, features KATSEYE performing a gravity-defying performance with dynamic choreography, and has been viewed more than 3 million times in less than a week since its release.

On Wednesday, August 21st, Netflix will be releasing a documentary series called Popstar Academy: Becoming Katseye, which follows the years leading up to the group’s formation.
