It has been announced that Yorushika will be performing the ending song for the TV anime “Chi. -About the Movement of the Earth-,” which will begin airing on NHK General TV in October.
“Chi. – About the Movement of the Earth” is an anime based on the masterpiece manga by Uoto (serialized in “Big Comic Spirits” from September 2020 to April 2022), which has won numerous awards including the Manga Grand Prize at the 26th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.
The story is set in a certain European country in the 15th century. In an era when the geocentric theory, which says that the Earth is the center of the universe and the planets revolve around it, was considered the truth of the world, and believing or researching anything that overturned that theory was a serious crime, a child prodigy named Rafal learned of the possibility of the heliocentric theory through the words of the mysterious scholar Hubert. He was called a genius by those around him, and even considered himself a genius, but an uncontrollable intellectual curiosity began to grow in him. “What on earth do I have to sacrifice to know everything about this world?” he asked, risking his own “knowledge,” “blood,” and even his life to prove the heliocentric theory. What fate awaits Rafal?
Maaya Sakamoto plays the child prodigy Rafal, Kenjiro Tsuda plays the examiner Novak, and Sho Hayami plays the mysterious scholar Hubert.
Yorushika’s n-buna commented with joy, “I’m honored to have been involved in the filming of such a wonderful original work.” The ending song by Yorushika will also be featured on the broadcast.
■ Comments from Yorushika and n-buna
◇What were your thoughts when you read the original story and script?
I really like this manga. There is always a human passion hidden in Uoyu’s manga, which continues from Hyakuem. When it is combined with the theme, it becomes explosively interesting. Chi. is a work that embodies the passion for “knowing,” so while reading the script, I thought about the common points between it and what Yorushika wants to create now.◇ Thoughts behind the ending theme
“Aporia” is a philosophical word that means an unanswered question or confusion. I wrote this piece comparing the desire to know the unknowable to an aporia.
The balloon in the lyrics is a metaphor for the limitless desire for knowledge. The balloon leaves the ground and gradually rises higher. Looking down from inside the balloon, you see a different view than when you were on the ground, the sea, where a school of fish shines white. That’s the song.
My interpretation of “chi” is “knowledge.”◇ A message to your fans
I am honored to have been involved in the film adaptation of this wonderful original work. I look forward to working with you all.
