SixTONES’ Tanaka Juri appears on the cover of “CHEER” and talks about idols

■ “When I concentrate on things other than SixTONES, I can’t keep my balance properly.” (Tanaka Juri, SixTONES)

SixTONES’ Tanaka Juri will appear on the cover of “CHEER Vol. 49” (on sale September 2nd).

This time, in honor of Tanaka’s upcoming film ACMA:GAME The Last Key, which will be released on October 25th, we interviewed him about acting and the “demonic power” of entertainment that attracts him.

Tanaka, who has talent as an actor but considers himself an amateur when it comes to acting, said, “Since they ask me, I do all I can, but…I’m an idol after all. In a way, I tell myself that. If I concentrate on anything other than SixTONES, I can’t maintain a good balance. I think that by having the core of being an ‘idol’, I can feel as free and as little pressure as possible when I’m working on jobs other than my main job of singing and dancing.”

Speaking about being an “idol” that so attracts him, he said, “The purpose of this job is clear. To provide our fans with something that they’re happy with, that’s everything to us. It feels amazing when the reaction to music that we think is really good and they get a good reaction, or when we’re hoping that the audience will get excited at a live show and they actually do! However, just as the moments when you feel satisfied are clear, the moments when you don’t are also very clear. To be honest, there are times during live shows when I think, ‘I thought the audience would get excited at this point, but is that weird?’ At times like those, it actually gets me fired up (laughs).” He revealed his devilish charm.
