KAMIYAandXanseiXAMIYA, a unit project by the duo, released their first single “HOTARU” today, Wednesday, August 28th. The music video was also released.
KAMIYA, a former XG candidate who started his career as a solo artist in 2022, and Xansei, an artist/producer who has provided beats for KOHH and JP THE WAVY, and has also produced NLE Choppa and XQ’s “Shooting Star”.“Deja vu”After Xansei produced “Yuri”, the two talents clicked and formed a unit. They self-produce everything from music production to music videos and artwork, aiming to create music that no one has ever heard before.
The lyrics for “HOTARU” were written by AIRI (KAMIYA) and Juliana Chahayed, the music was composed by YUTA (Xansei), and Taydex participated in the arrangement. The song features a storybook-like lyric about a lonely princess locked up in a castle being visited by fireflies, and a sound that combines indie rock and hyperpop. The recording took place in LA, and the art was self-produced.
AIRI had this to say about this song: “I think everyone has felt lonely in this world where meetings and partings are repeated, and the word ‘lonely’ appears often in HOTARU’s lyrics. Loneliness is an emotional state that you can’t share with anyone, unlike fun or happiness. So when I listened to this song, I thought it would be great if lonely people could connect with each other. In the darkness, just knowing that there are people out there who feel the same way can make you see a small light. That light is the song HOTARU.”
The music video was creatively produced by XAMIYA, directed by danbabeboo, who is active in the Japanese youth scene, and special effects were handled by Strangeloop Studios, which also works with VJs for The Weeknd and BLACKPINK.
