The featuring EP “Extended Vol.1” by Sawabe Wataru’s solo project Skirt was released digitally on September 4th.
This EP includes the previously released single “Subway’s Swaying Rhythm feat. Murakami Motoi (Zai-Nichi Funk),” the theme song for the movie “From Zero Meters Deep” “Nami no Nai Natsu feat. adieu,” “Kimi ni Aini Ikou feat. Inoue Kagetsu (Laura day romance),” which was used in the collaborative PV for the manga “Hirayasumi,” and SPECIAL OTHERS and Pasokon Ongaku Club make guest appearances. As the title “Extended” suggests, this is a work that lets you know a new side of Skirt through the features.
Regarding this featured EP, Sawabe reflected, “I am deeply moved to realize that my melodies and voice have this kind of expression.”
To celebrate the release of the EP, a free live show “Skirt Presents Honoo no Free Live 2024” will be held at Daikanyama UNIT on September 13th. Special guests at this live show include PUNPEE, who collaborated with them on the opening theme song “ODDTAXI” for the TV anime “Odd Taxi”, as well as Inoue Kagetsu (Laura day romance), and DJ Pasokon Ongaku Club.

Skirt’s new EP will be released. It’s called “Extended Vol.1”. It’s taken from the term “Extended” version included in disco 12-inch records. “Extend” means to stretch, and in simple terms, this EP is to “stretch” the part that “(by the way) Skirt was a solo project”. This time, I asked Motoi Murakami, SPECIAL OTHERS, and PC Music Club to produce it. I left most of the performance-related parts to them, and I was worried at first, but everything turned out great! I was moved by the fact that my melodies and voice had this kind of expression.
However, if I may be a little greedy, I also want people to experience the good points of the current band once again. I asked adieu (Moka Kamishiraishi) and Kagetsu Inoue from Laura day romance to sing with me on that song. There were moments when each member’s performance was further enhanced by Moka and Inoue’s singing, and I was able to reaffirm that I am glad to have continued with this group of members. And if, at the end of that stretch, there are listeners we haven’t met yet, people who used to listen to Skirt, it would be really great. Anyway, we have created a strangely fulfilling work. Let’s enjoy it together.

This unhealthy pop band has gained a reputation among people of all professions, genders, and ages for their somewhat dark yet refreshing songwriting and band ensemble.
In 2006, Wataru Sawabe started his solo project, focusing on multi-track recordings. In 2010, he launched his own label, Kachuka Sounds, and began to take his activities seriously with the release of his first album, “S.O.S.”
In April 2021, he collaborated with PUNPEE on the opening theme song for the anime series Odd Taxi, Odd Taxi. With his extensive knowledge of comedy, in September 2023, he was a judge for the finals of the UNDER 25 OWARAI CHAMPIONSHIP, a comedy award race limited to those under 25 years old, and wrote the theme song for the competition, Hope and Premonition. He has also been involved in the production of music for numerous other animations, movies, and dramas. In addition, his songwriting skills have led to him providing songs for Takashi Fujii, Kaede (Negicco), Touko Miura, adieu (Moka Kamishiraishi), and others. Furthermore, as a multi-player, Sawabe has participated in live performances and recordings by Spitz, Makoto Kawamoto, Moonriders, and others whom he himself admires, making him a wonderful singer-songwriter and band that attracts attention for its diverse talents and genres.
