YOASOBI’s 5th anniversary interview published! “Memorial free magazine” now available

■The full text of “The Burning of Hakusan Street,” the grand prize-winning work in a novel contest held in collaboration between the novel submission site “monogatary.com” and the literary magazine “Bungei,” is also published!

Starting from September 2nd, the memorial free magazine will be distributed free of charge at Recruit free paper racks set up at stations in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Osaka, Aichi, Hokkaido, Miyagi, Hiroshima and Fukuoka. The magazine also features the full text of “The Burning of Hakusan Street,” the grand prize-winning work in a novel contest that was a collaboration between monogatary.com, the novel submission site that gave birth to YOASOBI, and Bungei, a literary magazine published by Kawade Shobo Shinsha. The magazine will also feature an exclusive interview with YOASOBI, who will soon be celebrating their fifth anniversary since their formation.

The new song produced by YOASOBI based on “The Burning of Hakusan Street” has been announced as the commercial song for Recruit’s “Encounters Not Here Yet. Music Not Here Yet” project, which resonates with the theme of the aforementioned contest, “Encounters.” With the distribution of this free magazine, the project has finally begun in earnest.

In a 5th anniversary interview for Memorial Free Magazine, YOASOBI talks about their journey so far, their new song, and what they think about “encounters” and “meetings.”

The magazine also features an interview between Arite Mado, author of “The Hakusan Street Burning Case,” and Akutagawa Prize-winning author Kanehara Hitomi, who served as the selection committee chair for the contest. Read the original novel that was selected from 8,97 total entries and the interview while looking forward to the release of the song.
