Maruyama Ryuhei (SUPER EIGHT)'s film "Kaneko Sashiiriten" will be screened in the Competition Section of the Busan International Film Festival.

The film “Kaneko Sashiiriten” (nationwide release in 2025), starring Ryuhei Maruyama (SUPER EIGHT), has been selected to be screened in the NEW CURRENTS competition section of the 29th Busan International Film Festival, which will be held in Busan, South Korea from October 2nd to 11th.

The Busan International Film Festival is the largest film festival in Asia, with around 300 films from around the world being exhibited. The NEW CURRENTS category, which has been selected for this year’s screening, is one of the main competition categories at the Busan International Film Festival. It is open to up-and-coming Asian directors who are either their first or second feature films, and this year 10 films were selected.

In 2023, “Fukudamura Incident” (2023, directed by Mori Tatsuya) was submitted and won the NEW CURRENTS Award (Best Picture Award). It is expected that a Japanese film will win the award for the second consecutive year.

The film “Kaneko’s Delivery Store” is a tear-jerking human suspense film that depicts the bond between a family that runs a “delivery store” (a store that delivers food to prisons and detention centers) in downtown Tokyo. Co-stars include Maki Yoko, Miura Kira, and Terao Akira. This is the directorial debut of Furukawa Go, who also wrote the original screenplay.

I almost thought it was a dream, as the journey to the completion of the work was nothing but gifts, so to be honest, I still can’t quite believe that something so wonderful has happened. This is the first time I’ve sent a full-length work out to the world, so I was full of anxiety, but when I think that this result is only possible because it has received a certain amount of praise, I feel even happier.
