Naniwa Danshi’s beauty boss, Ryusei Onishi, makes his first solo appearance on the cover of “anan”! Includes an interview about beauty

■ “The concept of beauty has something in common with the way the group operates” (Ryusei Onishi)

Naniwa Danshi’s Onishi Ryusei will appear on the cover of “anan” issue 2414 (on sale September 18th) for the first time as a solo artist.

The theme of this issue of “anan” is “beauty”. The magazine publishes its annual “Announcement! 2024 Autumn anan Popular Cosmetics Awards” which introduces trendy makeup suggestions, the latest skincare, haircare, base makeup items, and more by category. Ryusei Onishi, known as the beauty boss of Naniwa Danshi, is the perfect fit for the “Popular Cosmetics Awards” special feature.

Before the shoot, we had a meeting with Onishi herself to ask her about the cosmetics she was interested in and the makeup she wanted to try, which we used as a basis for thinking up the four themes. During the meeting, we were amazed at her vast knowledge and curiosity. She is always up to date on new product information, including information on various cosmetic brands, and it was impressive to see her talk about her love of cosmetics with sparkling eyes, saying, “I’m interested in this item. It’s so cute!” From this pre-shooting meeting, we came up with four makeup patterns.

The first one is “Secret One-Mile Makeup.” Even on mornings when you can’t look your best and your mood is down, once you put on your nails and lipstick, your mood will improve. In the end, you can even catch her going out for a short trip, saying, “I look my best today after all!” A morning scene is recreated, where you can feel the power of makeup.

The second is “bitter colorful makeup.” It combines cool and warm colors like paint on a canvas, creating a bitter atmosphere that can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of gender. The overall balance with the fashion is also something to pay attention to.

The third one is “Autumn Euphoria Makeup”. It was born from Onishi’s suggestion during the meeting that “If I paint my cheeks with freckles to look like I’m tanned, I’ll look like a boy from overseas and I’ll definitely be cute!” Since I had the chance, I also styled my hair properly. I also used the props I had prepared to fully express the pop look.

The last one is the “Starry Sky Sparkle Makeup” which was also featured on the cover. Dressed in a dark set-up, she is completely different from her usual self, and captivates with her cool and lustrous appearance. Don’t miss this cut where she gives off a sharp gaze, completely different from her usual appearance.

Depending on the makeup, you can enjoy changing expressions and poses as if you were looking into a kaleidoscope. It’s sure to evoke a variety of emotions, such as cute, cool, soothing, and wonderful. The magazine also features the cosmetics used for the four makeup patterns, how-to guides, and comments from Onishi for each pattern. You can enjoy the makeup worn in the magazine in the same way.

This time, we take a slightly different approach from previous interviews, and talk extensively about “what to do when you can’t get motivated to do beauty treatments,” as well as how her ideal image and thoughts on beauty have changed since appearing in the “Mote Cosmetics Awards” gravure three and a half years ago. She also makes the intriguing comment that “there are some commonalities between the way our group thinks about beauty and the way we think about it.” We also cover what each of the other six members thinks is beautiful. We hope you will take note of Onishi’s unique perspective as someone who loves beauty.
