Yo Oizumi, at the end of filming for the drama “The Town I Saw at the End,” the staff’s surprise fails (lol)

TV Asahi’s 65th anniversary special drama “The Town We Saw in the End” has been released, showing the wrap-up scene of lead actor Yo Oizumi.

“The Town We Saw at the End” is a drama about a Reiwa-era family who travels back in time to 1944 and struggles to survive in the harsh wartime of Japan. The script was written by the rare screenwriter Yamada Taichi, with the theme of conveying the harsh experiences of wartime survivors to the next generation. This masterpiece, which has been adapted into a drama twice before, is revived after about 20 years with a script by Kudo Kankuro.

Oizumi gave it his all during the one-month long shoot, and finally wrapped up filming with the most important scene of the story.

The moment they said, “This scene marks the end of the film for Yo Oizumi, who plays Tamiya Taichi!”, Oizumi, still in his shocking all-black appearance, shouted, “Yaaaaa!” and raised both hands, expressing his joy with his whole body. Then, while looking back on the filming, he expressed his gratitude to all the staff and cast members who were involved in the production.

Oizumi’s co-star Yoshida Yo, who had already finished filming, rushed to the set as he was wrapping up filming, bearing a surprise bouquet of flowers. Oizumi, who had no idea about this, exclaimed, “Ah! What a surprise!” and his big reaction caused the entire scene to erupt in laughter.

The surprises for Oizumi continued, and when he finished his greeting, he turned around to see a large banner that read, “Congratulations to Oizumi Yo for wrapping up his first starring role in TV Asahi’s drama, ‘The Town I Saw at the End’!”

However, Oizumi’s reaction to this was somehow restrained. In fact, he witnessed the curtain being brought in, and complained, “It was tiring to pretend not to see this! (laughs).” Oizumi was met with constant laughter from the set, and the filming ended with smiles overflowing.

“The Town I Saw at the End,” which Oizumi has been working on with all his heart and soul, will air on September 21st. What will Tamiya Taichi’s family, who lives in the Reiwa era, see and experience in the world of 1944 when they time travel? And what will be the ending that awaits them as they try their best to survive in the harsh world of wartime? Let’s look forward to the broadcast.

■ Comment from Yo Oizumi (role of Tamiya Taichi)
I can’t believe it was only a month, it felt like we were shooting for about two months. Miyato-san’s script was wonderful, and although it is a drama that conveys the story of war, it also has some humorous elements and is somewhat fun, but it also gets the message across properly. The director’s direction was also very helpful, and I was able to act with satisfaction, and I was also blessed with great co-stars, so it was a really fun set. We filmed in the really hot summer, but everyone did a great job, so thank you very much. It will be airing soon, and I am very much looking forward to it. Thank you so much for allowing me to participate in such a wonderful production.
