An event where Ryuichi Sakamoto’s solo albums will be listened to, discussed, and played one by one
Ryuichi Sakamoto sadly passed away in 2023. We will be starting a series that focuses on his solo albums from the vast body of work he left behind, and listen to each one again.

The venue is RITTOR BASE, known for its high-quality sound. For each album, carefully selected sources will be played from CD, analog, and high-resolution audio. After listening, a talk corner will be held in which musicians closely related to Sakamoto will be invited to talk in depth about the appeal of the sound.

In addition, the musicians who participated in the talk will be asked to perform on the spot, inspired by the sound of the album! Experience how the sound left behind by Ryuichi Sakamoto is still being passed down to musicians today.

This is the first in the series, and we will be looking at “out of noise – R,” which will be released as a director’s edition on September 25th. Released in 2009, the album is entirely instrumental, with piano and natural sounds as the main focus, and features guests such as the early music group Fretwork, sho player Tamami Higashino, gagaku group Nanto Koyokai, and string players from a variety of genres, including Keigo Oyamada, Hirotaka Shimizu, Ren Takada, Christian Fennesz, and Rob Moose. The album also includes the “Arctic Trilogy” of “disko,” “ice,” and “glacier,” which were strongly influenced by Sakamoto’s experiences in the Arctic Circle during his visit to the Arctic Circle during the album’s production, making it extremely important in discussing Sakamoto’s activities in his later years.

This director’s version, now with an “- R”, includes the unreleased song “081121_high”, which will be unveiled for the first time at this event.
ILLUHA will be taking the stage and performing in the talk corner. Formed in 2006 by Tomoyoshi Date and Corey Fuller, this unit has released five works from 12K, including “Perpeptual,” a collaboration with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Taylor Dupree. Tatsuhisa Yamamoto joined the band on drums in 2022, and last year released their fourth album, “Tobira,” on LP from 12k. Yamamoto’s unconventional rhythms intertwine with their traditional style, such as endlessly deep reverbs and analog loops, taking them into new territory.

ILLUHA
In 2006, Tomoyoshi Date and Corey Fuller met through their mutual friend Chihei Hatakeyama. At the time, Fuller was living in Bellingham, Washington, but the two began collaborating when Date visited Seattle for hospital training in 2008. “Shizuku,” recorded in a historic church in Bellingham, was released by 12K in New York, and after touring Japan and the United States, the band has established a reputation as a live band. Since then, they have released five works from 12K, including “Perpeptual,” a collaboration with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Taylor Deupree. In 2022, Tatsuhisa Yamamoto joined the band as a drummer.
