Wacci writes new theme song “Donna Chiisana” for drama “After School Chart” starring Kohei Matsushita

■ “I’ve created a straightforward song that I want to share with everyone” (Yohhei Hashiguchi, Wacci)

wacci will be performing the theme song for the new Saturday drama “After School Chart” which will air on Nippon Television starting on October 12th.

Based on the popular manga “After School Chart” (published in Kodansha’s “BE・LOVE”) by Mayu Hinase, which has been loved by people of all ages, this drama is a “health room human drama” set in an elementary school, where an eccentric school doctor encourages the children. Kohei Matsushita plays the main character, Mr. Makino, and Aoi Morikawa plays Mr. Shinoya.

The theme song, “Donna Chiisana,” was written by wacci after listening to the thoughts of the drama’s production staff. It is a supportive song that accompanies “you,” who struggles with difficulties and weaknesses, but wants to become stronger and lives life to the fullest. The lyrics and music were written by Yohei Hashiguchi (Vo, Gu), and the arrangement was by Keiji Muranaka (Gu). It will be released online at midnight on October 12, the day the drama first airs.

The full version of “Donna Chiisana” will be aired for the first time on September 23rd on FM Yokohama’s YOKOHAMA RADIO APARTMENT’s “The Door is Open!”, hosted by DJ Yohei Hashiguchi.

■ Comment from Yohei Hashiguchi
As we go through life, we have many encounters, but at the same time, we also encounter many aspects of ourselves.
There may be times when you feel too weak to accept yourself, or you don’t want others to know about yourself.
Each time, I felt confused, worried, and conflicted, but I managed to create a straightforward song that I would like to share with all those people who continue to live their lives to the fullest with a smile.
Dr. Makino from “After School Chart” is someone who can see beyond the smiles and tears.
I hope that this song, along with the drama, will gently comfort the “unknown self” within you.

■Comment from Kohei Matsushita
It has been about two weeks since filming began for the drama, and the outline of the first episode is gradually becoming clear, but there are still some parts that I cannot fully imagine how this work will be received by viewers.
However, after listening to Wacci’s song “No Matter How Small,” I, at least, became convinced.
This drama is definitely going to be interesting!
I believe that the main story and the theme song are one and the same.
No matter how much we think about it and act it out, if the last piece missing is a theme song, then this time we have received the greatest gift of all.
This song made us feel strongly that we needed to put our passion and love into every single cut so as not to bring shame to this song.

■ Comment from Hidenori Iwasaki, Producer, Nippon Television Content Production Division
I am truly moved by the theme song that Hashiguchi-san wrote after reading the manga “After School Chart” and the drama script, and also listening to our thoughts directly. When you are facing difficulties, just knowing that someone is watching over you can make your heart feel better and you can feel good about yourself. This song is filled with such thoughts and will give you a strong and gentle push forward. The intro is really warm, so I hope you will look forward to the moment when the theme song plays in the drama.
