YOASOBI will release their new song “Monotone”, written as the theme song for the original feature-length animated film “Fureru.”, on Tuesday, October 1st, the 5th anniversary of their formation, and the English version of the song “Monotone” on Wednesday, October 2nd. The cover photo was revealed today.

The film “Touch” is the latest original feature-length animation from director Tatsuyuki Nagai, screenwriter Mari Okada, and character designer/chief animation director Masayoshi Tanaka, who have worked on the heart-stirring youth trilogy “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day” (2011, 2013), “The Anthem of the Heart” (2015), and “Her Blue Sky” (2019). The main characters Aki, Ryo, and Yuta will be played by highly talented actors including Ren Nagase, Ryuta Bando, and Kentaro Maeda. The story is about three childhood friends who are connected by touching each other with the mysterious power of “touch,” even though they don’t express their feelings to each other.

The new song “Monotone”, which will be the theme song of the film, was created based on the novel “The Eve of Touch” written by Mari Okada, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. The lyrics, which describe the loneliness of life and the feelings of thinking about someone, which are felt from the “relationships between people” depicted in the film, and the magnificent sound, make this a song that appeals to the heart. The jacket photo for the download is a collaboration jacket designed using a scene from the film “Touch”, featuring the mysterious creature “Touch”.

In addition, it has been decided that the CD of “Monotone” will be released in a limited edition on Wednesday, October 2nd, the same day as the digital release of the English version of “Monotone”. The CD jacket photo is an original illustration drawn by the official anime movie “Fureru”, and it is a picture book-style booklet with the motif of the book of legends of the mysterious creature “Fureru” that appears in the work. In addition to the title song “Monotone”, the CD will include the English version of “Monotone”, “Monotone – Movie Edit -” which adds a new part for the main story of the original feature-length animated movie “Fureru”, and “The Eve of Fureru”, the original novel of “Monotone” written by Mari Okada, who also wrote the screenplay for the movie.
