The music video for E.scene’s latest single “vector” released today, Friday, September 27th, has been released.
“Vector”, which will be released as the fourth work in 2024, is a song that was used as the theme song and insert song for the movie “SOUND of LOVE”, which will be released at Ikebukuro Cinema Rosa and other theaters nationwide from today. The band commented, “We believe that we have created a song where you can feel the straight and powerful band sound that penetrates through the floating sound, which has not been seen in previous songs, and the vocals that surround the whole song.” The music video was directed by Teppei Shibata. The work also includes scenes of the band performing.
The band has also decided to release their new album “All Around You” on October 23rd (Wednesday). The following text by music writer Tsuya-chan has also arrived.
The signature of E.scene’s music is Makoto’s (vocal) unparalleled singing voice. This album also shows that their expressive power has been further refined. With her smoky yet lustrous voice, even an ordinary melody can be dressed up to be dramatic or luxurious at times. In other words, “All Around You” inadvertently proves that R&B is a music of “songs”. Just by Makoto singing, any scale can be elevated to R&B.
For example, melodies like “Gift” and “Spotlight” that seem to be influenced by J-POP. “Vactor” is a Showa popular song that sings with melancholy, “Goodbye to the blue-dyed future/Tomorrow won’t be so kind as to wait.” When you hear Makoto’s singing voice, all of them take on a somewhat cinematic feel. When lyrics, songs, and sounds intertwine, people, scenery, scents, and textures emerge – All Around You = everything around you takes on a vivid form.
Furthermore, the charm of the performances that color and support the singing voices has deepened greatly. In E.scene’s songs, the rhythm section has always created a light, restrained sound to make the songs stand out. The direction of the sound making has not changed in this work. However, in addition, he now has the ability to weave even more stories. Among them, “Me and Me” is probably the band’s current goal. The bass and drums draw another story on a different axis than the melody, as if expressing the two first-person voices of “me” and “me.” Thanks to its unique skill in rhythm generation, it is as interesting as two stories running simultaneously. On the other hand, as is evident in “Petrichor,” the rhythm section’s approach to portraying passion in response to the vocals remains as clear as ever. His approach to pursuing both is admirable, whether it’s a performance that tells a story outside of the song, or a performance that reinforces the song itself.
With a minimal composition of vocals, bass, and drums, E.scene depicts maximum drama with a minimalist approach. The final piece of the 2020s R&B/SOUL scene has fallen into place. With this music, all of you around you will be breathed into life and begin to move.
