The circuit-type music + culture event “Sakurazaka ASYLUM 2025” will be held on February 8th (Saturday) and 9th (Sunday) next year.
This event will introduce new music and culture from the Sakurazaka neighborhood, a neighborhood loved by locals that serves as the “backyard” of Naha City’s main street, Kokusai Dori. In the fall of 2007, we started the project under the name “Wilderness Asylum” with SSW Takako Tate and others, with the aim of making music and other diverse cultures a refuge in the modern wilderness. Since then, it has continued to be held as “Sakurazaka ASYLUM”, changing its form each time.
In response to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, “ASYLUM in Fukushima” was started in Fukushima Prefecture in 2012. Furthermore, in 2016, “koshigaya ASYLUM” started in Koshigaya City, Saitama Prefecture, and the movement is quietly spreading.
This event has continued even during the coronavirus pandemic, but this year, 2024, will be the first year since its inception that “Sakurazaka ASYLUM” will not be held. It was said that he needed the time to reevaluate his stance for various reasons and to step up a gear.
“Sakurazaka ASYLUM” will be restarted with lots of new wisdom, ideas and humor. In addition to circuit-type live events held at up to 9 venues, there will also be talk events about various cultures, a marche where popular restaurants, handmade miscellaneous goods stores, artist shops, etc. gather, and limited screenings of movies recommended by Sakurazaka ASYLUM. etc. will be carried out. Check the official website for details on each program.
Early bird tickets are on sale starting today. In addition, crowdfunding will be conducted to start “Sakurazaka ASYLUM” in a new form. Rather than collecting operating funds, the idea is to get as many people as possible to participate in the event. Details will be announced soon.
