Introducing artist Tomotoshi, who expresses new ways of using cities through performances and videos! MEET YOUR ART MC Mirai Moriyama talks about his humorous works that will make you laugh.

“MEET YOUR ART” is an art program with Mirai Moriyama serving as MC.

This time, we will use performances and videos to express new ways of using the city.

Artist Tomotoshi, who plans and operates the private art museum “TOMO Urban Art Museum,” has appeared!

Who exactly is “Tomotoshi” who proposes a new way to use the city? ?

We will take a deep dive into humorous works that even Mirai Moriyama would laugh at, such as a work in which he photographed the exterior of a convenience store and completely copied it.

A performance by Tomotoshi will be held at the art exhibition “SSS: Super Spectrum Specification” within MEET YOUR ART FESTIVAL 2024, which will be held from October 11th to 14th.

Please take this opportunity to experience Tomotoshi’s humorous works.

After graduating from the construction engineering course at Toyohashi University of Technology, he has been involved in architectural design and urban planning for 10 years. Started presenting at exhibitions in 2014. He primarily creates video works with the theme of “actions that transform people’s movements.” Since 2020, he has been operating the Tomo City Museum of Art in Tokyo, proposing new ways to use the city.

Major exhibitions include “TTTV” (Chuo Honsen Gallery, 2018), “Aichi Triennale 2019” (Toyota City, 2019), “Aerobic Pick-up” (Saitama Museum of Modern Art, 2019), “Missing Sun” (Art Competition) 2021)” (Yoyogi TOH, 2021) and “Hopeless Delay Plan” (TAV GALLERY, 2023). The main awards include the “WIRED CREATIVE HACK AWARD 2019” runner-up, the “Image Forum Festival 2019” Audience Award, and the “Daily Portal Z Newcomer Award 2020” Excellence Award.

◾︎Tomo City Museum of Art

Tomo Urban Art Museum is an art museum that opened in Nishi-Ogikubo, Tokyo in April 2020 and practices and introduces experimental projects in modern cities. Tomotoshi, who lost exhibition opportunities due to the coronavirus pandemic, started the project by taking over the former Chuo Main Line Gallery in order to have a place where his works could be seen.

In addition to the Tomotoshi permanent exhibition, as a museum that deals with the city, we have been working with a variety of people, including Yuta Akiyama and editor-in-chief Nishida, to come up with a plan to create a situation where people can meet. Since the pandemic has subsided to some extent, he has been holding numerous workshops and proposing new ways to use the city, with the belief that “interesting things must happen on the streets!”
