A special exhibition in collaboration between a photographer and a collage artist will be held at New Gallery with an oasis as its motif.

■We will exhibit and sell collage works using portraits of the Gallagher brothers and collage works that recreated Oasis jacket photos!

The exhibition “Oasis Origin + Reconstruction” by photographer Jill Furmanowski, who has been photographing them for a long time since 1994, and collage artist/graphic designer Kosuke Kawamura, with an oasis motif, will be held at New Gallery in Jimbocho, Tokyo. The event will be held from October 31st.

This exhibition consists of documentary photographs of Oasis taken by Jill and collage works by Kosuke Kawamura, which boldly reconstruct the Oasis logo, album jackets, portrait photographs, etc.

Jill has photographed many famous artists including Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison, Bill Withers, The Who, The Clash, and Iggy Pop. Even for her, the Oasis documentary photographs taken between 1994 and 2009 are considered her best work.

In 2024, he won the ICON Award at the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards, and Oasis’ Noel (Gu & Vo) became a surprise presenter and introduced him as “one of my best friends,” which became a hot topic.

Kosuke Kawamura is active in a variety of fields, including creating the main visual for the “Katsuhiro Otomo GENGA Exhibition,” collage works using “AKIRA,” and becoming the creative director of UNIQLO UT. The band’s new logo was unveiled at the “Live Forever: Oasis 30th Anniversary Special Exhibition” to be held at the Roppongi Museum from November 1st.

In addition to the logo, this exhibition features a collage work using portraits of brothers Noel and Liam (vocals) Gallagher, taken by Jill, and the jackets of Oasis’ single “Champagne Supernova” and best album “Time Flies, 1994-2009”. Collage works made from reconstructed photographs will be exhibited and sold.

In addition to selling photographic works by Jill and collage and silkscreen works by Kosuke Kawamura, there will also be Oasis x Jill Furmanovsky x Kosuke Kawamura original goods available exclusively at Oasis Origin + Reconstruction.

■Jill Furmanowski comment
While preparing for this exhibition, I heard that the Gallagher brothers had resolved their differences and decided to reunite Oasis in 2025, and I was as excited as any Oasis fan.
This exhibition, which is linked to Roppongi Museum’s “Live Forever: Oasis 30th Anniversary Special Exhibition,” reflects the lives of five young people from Manchester. In 1991, with an abundance of attitude, energy and talent, they became one of the defining bands of the mid-1990s. Noel and Liam Gallagher have become rock icons, producing a number of timeless songs throughout their careers.
I was very surprised to see Kosuke Kawamura’s work using my photos. By chopping up and reconstructing the images of Noel and Liam, he seems to be subtly representing the rupture and reconciliation of two brothers with a fraught relationship that is at the heart of the Oasis sound.

■Kosuke Kawamura comment
As an Oasis fan, I am honored to be able to use Jill’s precious photos and create a collaborative piece.
