Universal Music LLC (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Takashi Fujikura / Universal Music) will release Samara Joy’s album “Portrait” on Friday, October 11th. It will be released.
Samara Joy, a rising star in the jazz vocal world, won the Best New Artist Award and the Best Jazz Album Award at the 65th Grammy Awards, and the Best Jazz Performance Award at the 66th Grammy Awards.
This is their second album, and was recorded over three days at Van Gelder Studio, one of the most sacred places in the jazz world. This work combines brightly interpreted standards and originals such as “You Stepped Out of a Dream” and “Autumn Nocturne,” and highlights the singer’s ability and expressiveness. The Japanese version of the CD will include “Three Little Words” as a bonus track.
“Autumn Nocturne” is a song released in 1941 with music by Joe Milo and lyrics by Kim Gannon. Kendrick McAllister, one of the band members, added a new arrangement to the album, and Samara co-produced it with veteran multi-Grammy award winning trumpet player Brian Lynch. It showcases a synergistic approach to arrangement and a soulful sound that showcases the intimacy she has developed with her touring band.
