■About DJ Shadow■

DJ Shadow has been releasing music for over 30 years. Their groundbreaking 1996 debut, Endtroducing, is considered one of the best albums of the 90s and continues to influence new generations of artists. There is. In “Nobody Speak” from their 2016 album The Mountain Will Fall, Run The Jewels, a two-man hip-hop group made up of rappers Killer Mike and El-P,・Featuring Jewels). “Nobody Speak feat. Run The Jewels,” which eventually went gold, has been streamed nearly 100 million times on Spotify and continues to permeate the public consciousness as a soundtrack for countless movies and television. The double album “Our Pathetic Age” released in 2019 featured De La Soul, Nas, and Run the Jewels, who performed the song “Rocket Fuel” on the popular US TV program Jimmy Kimmel Live. , Pusha T, Inspector Deck, Ghostface Killah and other guests will be in attendance. The first of the two-disc set is an all-instrumental original song, which foreshadows the upcoming album “Action Adventure.”

■About “Action Adventure”■

The first words sampled on the album are “all my records and tapes.” These are the only words heard on an almost entirely instrumental release, produced by Shadow alone with no collaborators. It’s like a thesis statement for an inward-looking project. “Action Adventure” tells the listener, “This is about my relationship with music. My life as a collector and curator. Nothing, just all my records and tapes.”

“You Played Me”

“Action Adventure” reminds me of happy days browsing at video stores. The album’s title is fitting given its soundscape and the menacing, mysterious atmosphere that accompanies all of his work. “You Played Me” was inspired by 200 tapes from Mix Station radio in the Baltimore/DC area in the ’80s that were put up for auction on eBay. It was a unique blend of dance music, R&B, and early hip-hop. Shadow kept listening to records he had never heard before, looping his own instrumentals. He dropped the needle on an obscure mid-’80s R&B a cappella 12-inch and let the track click. “Craig, Ingels & Wrightson” is dark and ghostly, a nod to the 50’s horror comic artist in the song’s title. The second part of the album includes the nearly eight-minute “Reflecting Pool,” an experimental collage of percussion and synths.
