The final nominees for Taiwan’s indie music awards “Golden Indie Music Awards” (GIMA) have been announced.
“GIMA” will be held for the 15th time this year. This year’s theme is “Shout Out / Shout Out to” to honor the pioneers of music creation, and the award ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at the Taipei Popular Music Center. In addition to being distributed simultaneously in Japan only on Japan’s Space Shower TV YouTube channel, it has also been decided that it will be broadcast live worldwide for the first time in collaboration with South Korean media platform PRIZM.
This year, there were a total of 3,877 entries, including 842 albums/EPs and 41 live performances. The Best Asian Creative Artist Award, which mainly targets works from Asian countries other than Taiwan, attracted a record 79 works, including Malaysia, Australia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, etc. , the participation of international music creators is increasing.
The final nomination list includes Silica Gel, an indie rock band that is very popular in South Korea, Virgin Vacation, an instrumental experimental band that is attracting attention from Hong Kong, NaraBara, which mysteriously fuses Mongolian folk and jazz, and SSW from China. In addition to Yeoian and others, Japanese names include Age Factory and LITE.
The works that have been nominated for the most awards are Elephant Gym’s 4th album “World”, which was released 10 years after the band’s formation, “SIM” by young rapper Taiwan rap handsome man, and Psychedelic. It’s called “The Great Bremen Show” by the rock band Fu Ling Mei (Bremen Entertainment Inc.).
In addition, pop/hip-hop electronic composer Dac was nominated for four awards for his debut album “Love Hereafter,” and was a finalist for the “Best Live Performance Award” for his performance of the song “Snack.” The “Best Band Award”, which is one of the most notable awards every year, includes Plutato, Wayne’s So Sad, I’m Difficult, Sorry Youth, and Daesang Yusao. (Elephant Gym) and Buu Mei (Bremen Entertainment Inc.) are among the finalists.
