Ambient/drone musician Chihei Hatakeyama and jazz drummer Shun Ishiwaka’s collaborative album “Magnificent Little Dudes Vol. 2” was released today, October 18th (Friday).
This work is a sequel to “Magnificent Little Dudes Vol.1″ released in May, and is the second part of a two-part series. The previous album featured a guest appearance by Japanese vocalist Hatis Noit, but this time British cellist Cecilia Bignall is featured on the album’s opening song, “M3”.
Hatakeyama commented on the song as follows: “On M3, Cecilia Bignall joined us on the cello. This is a testament to my long-ago influence on David Grubbs. It’s a song called “Stanwell Perpetual” from “The Spectrum Between”.However, this song has changed its shape many times in my head, so it has no direct relation to this “M3”. That seems to be the case.”
Furthermore, “Magnificent Little Dudes Vol.2” is also scheduled to be released in CD and 2LP (140g) formats at a later date.
In addition, Shun Ishiwaka will hold 3 days and 6 performances at Shinjuku PITINN in Tokyo on October 25th (Friday), 26th (Saturday), and 27th (Sunday). On the first day’s daytime performance, he will appear in a duo set with Chihei Hatakeyama. Tickets are currently on sale.

We apologize for the inconvenience, everyone. This is Shun Ishiwaka. We are very honored to be able to perform at Pit Inn again this year for 3 days and 6 performances. Thank you very much. In 2024, this day was the first time he made a pit stop. I missed the atmosphere of pitinn so much, and at the same time, I’m really looking forward to it. On the first day at noon, there was a duo with chihei, and last year it was a pre-release live, but this year it will be a live with two works already released. Last year’s stumbling talk was a personal highlight for me, but I wonder what kind of performance and talk this year will be.
