■”We had met before…we had enjoyed dinner and karaoke together, so we were talking about how nice it was to sing together (lol)” (Sari Ito)
Actors Sari Ito and Hiroki Hasegawa, as members of the “Dabuchi Man Brothers Band,” passionately sing “Sore ga Ima Dake Dabuchi,” a parody of the great MAN Brothers Band’s famous song “Sore ga Idai,” which was a big hit in the early 1990s, at McDonald’s. TV commercials have become a hot topic.
In the commercial, Sari Ito and Hiroki Hasegawa appeared as the Dabuchiman Brothers in front of a nostalgic music program-style set and the host. During the singing process, the singer sings rhythmically while stuffing her mouth with garlic onion dabuchi, trichi, and spicy dabuchi, and the performers, host, and cameraman get involved, happily conveying the deliciousness that only exists today.
The two, who were briefed on the shoot for this commercial, were thrilled with the unique story. While looking at the art set inspired by a 90’s TV pop show, Hasegawa looked back on his youth and said, “I feel like the 90’s aren’t that long ago…but it has a nostalgic feel~”, and Ito also said, “I loved the hairstyles and costumes. It really reminds me of the times,” she said, revealing that she likes her ponytail decorated with ribbons and cute outfits.
Also, in the scene where he sings while playing the guitar, Hasegawa plays a supporting role, saying, “I’m going to go along with Sari-chan,” but he says, “I kept the guitar low to make it look like I’m good at it (lol),” and he said, “I played the guitar low to make it look like I’m good at it (lol).” It made me laugh.
■Sari Ito/Hiroki Hasegawa Interview
Q: Please tell us your impressions of co-starring in McDonald’s new TV commercial for the first time.
Ito:We had met before…we had enjoyed dinner and karaoke together, so we said, “I’m glad we sang together” (lol). It was a lot of fun and I’m glad I could work with you.
Hasegawa:I had the impression that he was really good at karaoke, and his physical movements were not at all average, so I thought, “That’s not normal,” so I got to perform with him like this today, and I got to see a little bit of that (lol). It was a lot of fun, and even though it wasn’t our first time working together, we got along pretty well.
Ito: Well, it was the first time in six years (lol).
Hasegawa:It was my first time working there since then, but it was a really nice atmosphere, and I had a lot of fun on set, where I couldn’t stop laughing from beginning to end.Q: Please tell us your thoughts on the art sets and costumes that are inspired by 90’s music programs, which are a feature of the new TV commercial.
Ito:I was really excited from the morning! It’s cute…and full of Mac love, but with a 90’s feel (lol). The colors (of the costumes) were a perfect collaboration between 90s and Mac, and I thought it was really cute, and the set was also really cute, and even though I’m not from the Don Pisha generation, I thought, “I’ve seen something like that before.” That’s what it felt like. It was fun to be transported back to the 90’s all at once.
Hasegawa:From my point of view, the 90s was just recently (lol). It feels like it’s from my youth, so it doesn’t feel like the old days, but when I put it on, it felt nostalgic and I was reminded that a lot of time has passed… and the atmosphere of that time was really great. It was really fun because I felt like I was back there, and it was a scene that reminded me of my youth.Q: Please tell us your impressions of singing and acting as an artist in the Dabuchiman Brothers Band.
Ito:It was like a dream, and it was so much fun. It really felt like a music program, with everyone singing along. The other performers were cheering along with me in the background, and it felt like I was making my debut.
Hasegawa:I also wanted to become a singer if I could sing well, so I felt very happy that I was able to become a singer (lol). It feels like I was in my youth, and I feel like I had a great experience while reminiscing about the past.
