Luv, a five-member band made up of current university students, held their first self-planned event “luv presents ‘yet” at Shimokitazawa ADRIFT in Tokyo on October 20th (Sunday).
The first independently planned event by the up-and-coming band, which has been attracting attention for about a year since its formation, was held as a two-man event with DURDN as a guest. Tickets for this day were flooded with applications as soon as the information was released, and the venue was packed to capacity.

Following guest DURDN, luv appeared and was greeted with big applause from the venue. The live started with “Motrr,” which has become a familiar song at luv these days, and the venue quickly heated up. After introducing the members, each member performed a solo performance. This was followed by “Jamlady,” a song with an acid jazz approach released in May, followed by “Stevly,” a groovy performance typical of luv, which had the audience raising their hands and shaking their bodies as they enjoyed it.
The slow neo-soul sound of “Cooen” is accented by DJ Ofeen’s talk box synthesizer, and Hiyn’s guitar solo. Next, the major debut single “Fuwa Fuwa”, which was released in July and was ranked in the top 3 of viral charts in Taiwan, attracted attention. It was a pleasant mid-tempo pop song, and here, Candies’ “younger song” was performed. A cover of “Boy” with a soulful and cute arrangement. It made me feel the band’s musical range.
During the MC, the five members gave a completely different impression of their cool performances, speaking in the Kansai dialect, giving a sense of their respective characters. In the second half, he talks about his feelings and memories about holding an independent event about a year after the band’s first live show. Following “R.Wiseman,” “Each (Onoon0)” started with Zum’s bass, and was a new song that was typical of a session band, centered around Sho’s drums. The latest single “Kojin Kiko” was performed with a relaxed groove arrangement that was different from the recorded sound source.
At the end of the main part, the live band goes from “luv’s FUNK”, which is familiar to luv’s live performances, to “Lee Un Vile” which reaches its climax, Rosa’s superb keyboard solo, Hiyn’s passionate guitar solo, etc. It’s hard to believe that this is a 21-year-old live band. The audience responded with loud cheers, and the main episode ended.
The first encore song was the first performance of the new song “Softener DOPE”, a future funk-like dance tune with an impressive synthesizer tone and a new side of the unique lyrics about becoming DOPE with the smell of your favorite person’s fabric softener. It is a song that can be enjoyed.
After the performance of their new song, they announced that their new song “Softener DOPE” will be released on November 6th (Wednesday), and that their first national tour will begin next March. There was a moment when the announcement video didn’t play well and the members and the venue erupted in laughter, but when the tour dates were announced, the audience erupted with voices of “congratulations.”

The event ended with a sing-along of “Gum i,” a popular song from luv’s live performances, with the audience.
It was a night filled with LUV’s charms, including their musical influences such as Y2K neo-soul, funk, jazz, and hip-hop, as well as their highly skilled live performance despite being just 21 years old, and the characters of the members. I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ll do on next year’s tour.
