Spotify starts offering “Music Video” beta version in Japan

Spotify has started offering the beta version of “Music Video”, which has been available in some countries and regions since March 2024, to premium users in 85 countries and regions including Japan.

Users can watch music videos on their mobile, desktop or TV devices, and can even enjoy them in full screen by turning their mobile device sideways. You can also seamlessly switch between audio and video at any time with one tap from the song playback screen, and you can also receive notifications about newly added music videos and music videos of recently saved songs. Additionally, you can easily search and access music videos by song name or artist name.

In countries and regions where the beta version has been rolled out so far, users who watched the music video had a 34% higher playback rate within a week, and a 24% increase in favorites and shares. Furthermore, music videos not only create new encounters, but also bring artists and fans closer together, and can be expected to contribute to making that connection more long-term.

The number of songs eligible for music videos will continue to expand, and Spotify Premium users will be able to watch music videos on Spotify one after another over the next few weeks.

[Comment from Kyota Onishi, Head of Music Business Division, Spotify Japan Inc.]

“Spotify has many features that not only allow you to discover new artists through personalized listening experiences and playlists, but also deepen your interest in the artists you meet. By making it possible to enjoy visually rich music videos on Spotify, we hope that it will enrich the music experience for users more than ever before, and at the same time, it will become a presence for artists to increase engagement with listeners.
