■Watch the dynamic Hey! Say! JUMP members’ dance scene using a 360-degree camera!
The music video for the lead song “Donkey Gongs” from Hey! Say! JUMP’s new album “H⁺” (released on November 27th) has been premiered.
“Donkey Gongs” is a groovy and intense dance number that breaks new ground. It’s an edgy song with lyrics that you can’t help but find yourself humming, and an addictive sound.
The music video is set in a post-apocalyptic world, with eight young people stranded in an empty city. As if in response to the excitement of the eight people walking and playing freely, the lights of the gorgeous amusement park gradually come on in the ruined city, and with their songs and dances, a new world opens up. It expresses the progress.
Utilizing a realistic set built in a studio and high-quality VFX shot against a blue background, it is full of ambivalent visuals of ruins + amusement park and edgy production, perfect for the excitement of the song. The result is a flashy MV.
This is the first collaboration with Yasuhiro Arafune, the MV director, in 5 years since the MV for “Beast and Rose” from the album “PARADE” (2019). It also includes elements that pay homage to the worldview of “The Beast and the Rose.”
The new album “H⁺” was mainly produced by member Ryosuke Yamada, including the concept, visuals, and songs. In particular, the feelings put into “Donkey Gongs” are quite strong, and it takes a long time to prepare and is packed with attention to detail, from the world view and set image to the choreography and even the details of the costumes.
Dance is what Yamada said he was most particular about this time. The choreographer will be KAITA, who will be collaborating with Hey! Say! JUMP for the first time. With intense slow-paced choreography, the addictive sound of “Donkey Gongs” is expressed with addictive groovy dance. In particular, the dance break (interlude) with a simple set that makes the dance stand out is a lively dance scene that uses a 360-degree camera.
While other members were filming, Yamada would check the monitor with a serious look on his face, or he would run up to the members and direct the scenes himself. “Donkey Gongs” was carefully crafted in consultation with the staff and members, and contains many attractive cuts that can only be brought out by Yamada, who knows the members well. A making-of video that also shows the process will be included as a bonus video for the first limited edition of the new album “H⁺”.
