■Comment from general host Sho Sakurai
“Best Artist” will be broadcast for the 24th time this year.
It’s a big music special program at the end of the year, and every year artists who were active that year perform a variety of gorgeous songs and performances. This will be my 16th time serving as the general host, and as a music fan, it’s a rare opportunity to see the performances of so many great artists live, so I’m excited to see these people up close and personal! I hope I can send you a luxurious and happy time while enjoying it.
I can’t talk about the details yet, but we’re preparing not only songs that are truly symbolic of this year, but also various projects and mechanisms that can only be delivered on this program, so we’ll have a variety of flowing, overflowing performances. I hope you enjoy the performance.
I hope to deliver a lot of music with a lot of energy to the viewers and make it a memorable program in 2024.
■Sho Sakurai interview
Q: In honor of the “Best Artist” award, please tell us your best and fondest memories of this year.
When it comes to “best” this year, it’s the Paris Olympics.
I have a lot of memories, but I was really happy to see the famous artist Snoop Dogg live at the breaking venue. When I was in about 7th grade, the hip-hop song I listened to was Snoop Dogg.
Before the competition begins, there’s a ceremony where they pound the floor with a wooden stick to signal the start, and I think it was probably a surprise, but Snoop did it and I was really surprised and said, “Wow!” hand.
I was happy that my favorite artist was there at a time I didn’t expect, and that it was not in the US (where he is based), but in Paris.
Q: What is the one song from this year that sticks in your mind?
“Pump It” by Black Eyed Peas. I got to perform a full-length English rap song live for the first time on “THE MUSIC DAY” in the summer, and I listened to it every day, every day, so for me, it’s really the song of the year. hey.
I performed with Itsuki (Tanaka) from SixTONES, ELLY from Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS, RYOKI from BE:FIRST, and MAYUKA and RIMA from NiziU, and when I heard “Pump It,” those guys were the first thing I noticed. I can almost see his face.
