■“I asked (Toru of ONE OK ROCK) to include more instrumental sounds.”
BTS JIN has released a Q&A about his 1st solo album “Happy”. He shared behind-the-scenes stories about the production of “Happy” and his thoughts on his recent activities.
Q: You and MAX, who participated in “I’ll Be There,” have worked together on BTS’ “Yet To Come.” How do you feel after breathing together for the first time in a while?
I asked MAX to create a song with a band sound from the beginning. The melody was also created to suit me, and I was satisfied with the song that fit well with my vocal range.
Q: ONE OK ROCK’s Toru plays the guitar on “Falling”. What is the story with Toru?
The first song I received had a gentler feel than the current one. In the first place, I created the “Happy” album while imagining singing at a performance venue, so I asked Toru to include more instrumental sounds. After one or two rounds of feedback, I had a shape I liked and was able to get to work right away.
Q: What do you think of the duet song “Heart on the Window (with WENDY)”?
I’ve always known that WENDY is a good singer, but I realized once again that she’s really good at singing. I was worried because I had never performed a duet with anyone other than BTS members, but it turned out to be so good that I thought I was wasting my time worrying. It was much better than I expected and I was really satisfied.
Q. Please tell us about the behind-the-scenes stories from the production of other recorded songs.
I like games. Among the songs on the album, I decided on the concept and wrote the lyrics for the song “Another Level” while remembering when I was playing a game. I think it’s more fun for people who play games with a slightly darker atmosphere to listen to when they need to level up (lol).
Q: What is the most memorable episode from the original content “Run Jin”?
My most memorable experience was experiencing an abandoned house at the folk village. As all the fans know, I don’t like scary things, so when I saw the project proposal, the first thing that came to my mind was “Do I really have to do it?” (laughs) But a staff member hinted that “the fans have been talking a lot about their experience in an abandoned house,” so we had no choice but to do it (lol). Fortunately, when the video was released and I saw ARMY (BTS fandom’s name) enjoying it, I thought, “Okay, well done!”
Q: I received a YouTube content recommendation from a fan. What did you think when you saw the recommendation list?
It was strange because most of them wanted me to have an easy shoot. Personally, I thought that people would find the moment of overcoming difficult things interesting, but I was surprised because so many fans recommended a talk show.
Q: You worked on variety shows on various platforms such as TV, video streaming, and YouTube content. Why did you actively participate in variety shows?
After I was discharged from the military, I thought about how I could show my face to my fans as soon as possible. Appearing on TV shows allows me to meet my fans more quickly than releasing an album, so I appeared on the show the most. It is for the same reason that we created the original content “Run Jin”.
Q: What words would you like to say to yourself, who is working hard without any time to rest?
JIN, if you work harder, ARMY will be happier, so let’s keep working hard.
“Happy” will be released on November 15th (16th in Japan). On the same day, the music video for the album title song “Running Wild” was also released. This MV depicts the small happiness and love that shines brighter in the extreme situation of “the destruction of the earth”.
While everyone panics in front of the destruction, Jin lives a peaceful life, watching movies and shopping with his beloved dog.
Next, a gigantic meteorite falls, and in order to avoid it, Jin rides his dog and car along an endless road. Images of happy past days are mixed in here, further emphasizing the urgent situation.
However, Jin and the dog feel stability and happiness as they look at the same place until the end. In the end, a huge explosion occurs on Earth, but the music video ends with a fun moment between Jin and the dog, leaving a lasting impression.
In this way, JIN says that no matter the situation, if there is love shared by irreplaceable beings, that in itself is happiness.
Furthermore, JIN will hold a fan showcase ‘Jin ‘Happy’ Special Stage’ on November 16th and 17th at Jangchung Gymnasium in Jung-gu, Seoul.
