Former SMAP Katsuyuki Mori “Auto Racer Katsuyuki Mori Promised Oval Movie Version” main video released! Also decided to appear in “Jonetsu Tairiku”

■The main video of visiting the “origin of auto racers” for the first time in 35 years and looking back on his childhood with his brother has been released

At the age of 22, when he was at the peak of his popularity as a member of SMAP, Katsuyuki Mori turned into an auto racer, which was his childhood dream. The documentary film “Auto Racer Katsuyuki Mori: The Promised Oval Movie Version” (distributed by: KADOKAWA) will be released nationwide from November 29th.

This time, the main footage of this work has been released, in which Katsuyuki Mori visits the park where he played “auto racing” with his older brother when he was young and looks back on his childhood.

Furthermore, it has been decided that he will appear on “Jonetsu Tairiku” which will be broadcast on MBS/TBS from 11pm on November 17th.

In 1996, Katsuyuki Mori made the transition from a top idol to an auto racer while attracting attention from all over Japan.

On November 3, 2020, after 24 years, he finally achieved his long-awaited first victory at the Japan Championship. However, just 82 days later, he fell from a car during a race and sustained serious injuries that threatened his life.

What was Mori thinking and what was his source of support during the two years from then until he returned to racing, undergoing numerous surgeries and undergoing intensive rehabilitation? What is it that drives him to never stop running, even after sustaining an injury that threatens his career? Now that he is 50 years old, what does Mori Katsuyuki think?

Over the course of three years, we conducted long interviews with family members, fellow racers, doctors, and the individual himself, using cameras at hospitals, racetracks, and other places that remind him of his childhood. What emerges is the unchanging bond between family and friends. It was a passionate thought.

This work is based on “Auto Racer Mori Katsuyuki: To the Promised Oval”, which was screened at the TBS Documentary Film Festival held in March 2023, and has been re-edited with significant additional footage, and was created by Mori Katsuyuki. The content is completely new and brings to light the source of his unyielding fighting spirit.

What has been released this time is the main video in which Katsuyuki Mori looks back on his childhood. I visited the park with my brother Hisanori, the place where auto racers set foot on the ground for the first time in 35 years.

In addition to using a bicycle instead of a motorbike, Mori also used empty cans to make the iron slipper that auto racers wear on their left foot to help them balance when turning corners.

I remember my older brother playing races with me almost every day, and the way he happily told me, “I wanted to imitate an auto racer, even if just a little bit,” as he rode his bicycle, reminiscing about those days. His dazzling memories and love for auto racing, which he has admired since childhood, are clearly conveyed.

This is a valuable video that shows his unparalleled passion for auto racing, even from his private side, which is different from his serious demeanor during the race.

Furthermore, it has been decided that he will appear on “Jonetsu Tairiku” which will be broadcast on MBS/TBS from 11:00 PM on November 17th.

In contrast to this film, which follows him from the time he suffered a serious injury until his return, the program captures how he once again challenges the SG Japan Championship with the aim of becoming the best in Japan after his return.

In addition, it is full of valuable footage, such as a reunion with members of “3nen B-gumi Kinpachi Sensei” including Masato Hagiwara, who served as the narrator for this work. Enjoy it along with the movie.

On November 30th, a public commemorative stage greeting will be held at Shinjuku Piccadilly at 19:00, with Mori Katsuyuki and Hagiwara Seiji taking the stage together. Advance lottery sales will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on November 17th, and general sales will begin online from 10:00 a.m. on November 23rd.
