William Alexander, a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles who is currently based in Brooklyn and has roots in Okinawa, has released a new album, “Solo.”

William Alexander is highly acclaimed as a “musician’s musician.” With his rich rhythmic sense and deep roots in Los Angeles’ progressive underground scene, William Alexander has been instrumental in producing music such as André 3000, Celeste, Connan Mockasin, He has collaborated with and recorded with many notable artists including Laraaji, John Carroll Kirby, Carlos Niño, Mndsgn, and Nick Hakim.

“Solo” is a work that expresses the essence of introspective bedroom folk through his vast artistic world. Starting with the lead single “Anwt,” which embodies a unique soul-folk style while referencing Jessica Pratt’s timeless sensibilities and José González’s unique guitar playing, his songs include “Sunflowers,” “Blue Skies,” and “Wdwg.” This is a continuation of the work that transitions the strong, gritty soul-sounding songs from his early work, “New York Songtapes, Chapter I: “The Uncut Tree”, to softer mood acoustic sounds.

The 2nd single “Ghosts” is a gem of a song that sublimates diverse inspirations such as samba, bossa nova, and lo-fi into a unique soul-folk song, filled with intimate inner dialogue and heartbreaking harmonies. “Meditation” and “Selfless” add ambient music elements to invite the listener into a peaceful meditation. The final song, “Time,” gently emphasizes the importance of facing oneself with delicate and expressive guitar playing. It appeals to listeners and invites them to deeper inner exploration. The simple yet sophisticated rich vocal tones and flowing rhythm of the nylon string guitar are reminiscent of the masters of the Brazilian Tropicália of the 70s, such as the young Caetano Veloso and Erasmo Carlos, and the listener’s attention to them. It touches my heart deeply.

William Alexander

Artist / Singer-Songwriter / Multi-Instrumentalist

William Alexander, a SSW with roots in Okinawa, expresses the essence of introspective bedroom folk through his vast artistic world. The strong, gritty soul of his early work gives way to a softer mood, inviting the listener to explore within. The simple yet sophisticated rich vocal tone and flowing rhythm of the nylon string guitar are reminiscent of the greats of Brazilian Tropicália in the 1970s, such as the young Caetano Veloso and Erasmo Carlos.

His songs explore themes of self-actualization and various forms of love, moving between observation and invisible mystical concepts. In today’s world of fast fashion and self-expression, William Alexander listens to the opposite. Being modest is not an escape, but rather a courageous choice to face the music, oneself, and the cries of one’s soul hidden deep within.
