Ren Nagase becomes the heir of a super selfish narcissist! Ren Nagase x Mizuki Yamashita’s first co-starring drama “Koi wa Mutsusugi for the Heir” will be broadcast

■”I think this is a work that makes you wonder if it’s still Tuesday every week.” (Ren Nagase)

The new drama on Kantele/Fuji TV’s “Tue Dora Eleven” slot (every Tuesday from 11pm) starting on January 7, 2025 is “Koi wa Muzusugi for the Heir” starring Ren Nagase (King & Prince). It was decided.

In this drama, the grandson of the chairman of a major apparel manufacturer, who has lived a spoiled and free-spirited life, becomes a colleague with a commoner woman who was born and raised in the exact opposite environment, and while working together on making children’s clothes,… A romantic comedy about first setbacks and true love.

Starring Nagase will play the main character, Subaru Tendo, and Mizuki Yamashita will play the heroine, Madoka Hanakura. This will be Nagase and Yamashita’s first time co-starring.

Subaru Tendo, the grandson of Wataru Tendo, the chairman of the major apparel manufacturer Fukuten, is a vain heir full of character flaws who is the ultimate in self-love and has lived solely on looks and money. Finally, Wataru’s grandfather, unable to bear it anymore, lets Subaru join Fukuten as a new employee, and then kicks Subaru out of his house and makes him live in a company dormitory.

On the other hand, Madoka Hanakura, who became Subaru’s trainer, is an extremely thrifty commoner girl who lives in the same company dormitory. Madoka, a serious and hardworking person, confronts Subaru head-on, who has never been seriously scolded by him due to his powerful title of “grandson of the chairman.” Subaru gradually develops special feelings for Madoka, and he wants to somehow make Madoka fall in love with her, who doesn’t trust in uncertain things like love.

■I have never seen Ren Nagase like this! Actually, a character that is close to the original!?
Subaru Tendo, played by Nagase, is a boxed-up heir who is the most free-spirited and self-loving. She has been popular ever since she was born, and has never been dumped after confessing her feelings, but because she has never known true love and has only had self-centered relationships, she always ends up getting dumped. And a hardcore narcissist who truly loves his perfect appearance. He also has a wealth of knowledge about clothing, and is knowledgeable about materials and designs. When Subaru meets Madoka, he wonders, “Why doesn’t this woman fall in love with me?”

Nagase, who plays the lead role, is a talented actor, having won the New Actor Award at the 44th Japan Academy Awards for his role in the movie Yowamushi Pedal while working as an artist in King & Prince. Nagase has a strong image of playing calm roles, but this is her first attempt at a comedic love story. When the side of Nagase shown in variety shows is translated into acting, a new character never seen before is born.

■Mizuki Yamashita, who has expanded her range of activities as an actor after graduating from Nogizaka46, will play the heroine!
Madoka Hanakura, played by Yamashita, is a serious and hard-working person who cannot tolerate being crooked. Because he has come this far through hard work, he believes in his own hard work and experience, not his birth. Because she has gone through a lot of hardships in the past, she is a realist and does not believe in uncertain things such as romance and love, nor does she seek it out. When Madoka meets Subaru, she wonders, “Who are you?”

After graduating from Nogizaka46 in May 2024, Yamashita has expanded his activities as an actor. It will be interesting to see how Yamashita, who has always loved watching dramas and movies and wanted to do a thrilling orthodox romantic comedy, will play the role of Madoka, who is at the mercy of the selfish heir played by Nagase.

■A classic romantic comedy that will make you look forward to every Tuesday night in the middle of winter!
This work depicts the love stories of working adults, as well as the characters’ efforts to live their lives, such as love in society, the struggles of work, setbacks, and the joy of accomplishment. It includes elements that can be empathized not only by young people but also by a wide range of generations.

At first, Subaru was a selfish and conceited heir who grew up in a greenhouse, but as he experienced setbacks and accomplishments at work, he began to seriously face himself and the people around him, and his attitude gradually changed. ….

This work is an original story, and the screenplay is written by Haruka Ohkita, who worked on “Night Doctor” and “Ride on a Unicorn.” The two are teaming up again for the first time since the drama “Tokyo Tower,” starring Ren Nagase. “Tokyo Tower” depicted a serious adulterous love affair with an older woman, but this work is 180 degrees different and depicts the clumsy love story and growth story of a selfish son of a wealthy family.

■Ren Nagase, Mizuki Yamashita comments
Q: What did you think when you first heard about this drama?
Nagase:As soon as I saw the title, I thought it would be really interesting and fun. When I read the script, I found some parts of the dialogue and Subaru’s character that really caught my eye, so I was really looking forward to filming.
Yamashita:It feels like a romantic comedy, and you can’t believe that each episode is only 30 minutes long, so you can enjoy it in so many ways, and while it’s bright and fun, there are also some deep stories, and I thought it was very interesting, with a lot of ups and downs that made you laugh and cry.

Q: Please tell us about the scene you are looking forward to.
Nagase:I think it’s a script that will make it easy to see how it will unfold. I think the dialogue between Subaru and Madoka, and the dialogue between Subaru and his best friend Tomoya, if they don’t say their lines at the right time, they’re going to end up going in a different direction than they intended. So, while I think it will be difficult, I am also looking forward to it.
Yamashita:After all, the interaction between the two (Subaru and Madoka) that Nagase mentioned earlier was interesting. Speaking of episode 1, I’m looking forward to this scene (raises his fist). I want to do my best here.
Nagase: Oh, that’s scary (lol).

Q: This is your first time working together, but please tell us your impressions after meeting each other.
Nagase:Even before I met him, I thought he was a solid person, and when I actually met him and talked with him, I got the impression that he was a solid person. I don’t know if it’s because I have two younger brothers. Not though.
Yamashita:picture. younger brother?
Nagase:Wasn’t he there? Weren’t they 9-year-old and 7-year-old brothers?
Yamashita:No, I’m an only child (lol) It was really like this, which was surprising. (Before we met) I thought he was a cool person. He is a handsome man by profession! Like.
Nagase:I’m the host (lol).
Yamashita:I thought he was kind of rough in the best sense of the word, friendly and funny.

Q: Is there anything about yourself that you think you should tell the other person first?
Nagase:I think I’ll be saying things like what I just said, so I can keep my spirits up if you don’t let me get discouraged.
Yamashita:It’s a bit troublesome (lol).
Nagase:I’m not going to give up and I’ll continue to be lazy, so I’d like him to stay with me for about 3 months until the end.
Yamashita:It’s a battle every day. It often captures small blurs.
Nagase:If I don’t do that, my brain won’t last (lol).
Yamashita:I feel like I’m getting less and less pissed.

Q: Each of you plays a character with a strong individuality, but is there anything in common with you?
Nagase:There’s something about my love of clothes. (Same as Subaru) I like myself, but Subaru is so blunt. Subaru’s level is a little too high. When it comes to liking clothes, I think we might share the same passion.

Q: I have an impression that your personality and artistic style are similar to Subaru.
Nagase:(Subaru) is exaggerating a lot. It is several hundred times darker.
Yamashita:I don’t think that’s the case at all. There’s no need to prepare for a role, right?
Nagase:Indeed, if you ask me, that’s true.
Yamashita:The Madoka-chan I play is a serious girl who works hard at her job, so I guess it’s me (lol). However, Madoka-chan is also a bit stiff, or rather clumsy, and is often misunderstood. In terms of being good at saving money, I also like saving money, so I think we’re the same in that respect.

Q: Lastly, please give a message or highlights to the viewers.
Nagase:It’s a romantic comedy, so it has a thrilling element to it, and it also has elements of a work drama, as well as a friendship part. The story unfolds in a very interesting way around these three axes, and I think it’s a work that makes you wonder if it’s still Tuesday every week. If you’re tired from work or just want to relax, we hope you’ll check it out on Tuesday. thank you.
Yamashita:I think it’s a work that becomes even more interesting as you watch each episode, as the plot changes dramatically every week. I think it’s a warm content that will make you laugh and cheer you up this winter, so I’d be happy if you look forward to seeing the love story between the two and the unique characters of the cast. .

■Producer Takashi Hagiwara comment
I have never seen Ren Nagase like this! He is extremely selfish, natural, naive, narcissistic, loves clothes and is fashionable, but he is a misunderstood man with a love deviation value of 0! The sight of the main character struggling to convey his feelings, albeit clumsily, is sure to encourage and cheer up everyone! I think you’ll be able to fully enjoy the parts of Mr. Nagase that betray his image of many shadowy roles, but somehow also relate to Mr. Nagase himself. And the character played by the heroine, Mizuki Yamashita, is also a character with a strong personality! In real life, the two of them are a perfect match, and on the day they met, they started to get into each other’s strange parts. I think the playful conversations and romance between the hero and heroine will be the most heartwarming story this winter, so please look forward to it!
