■The character played is Kapita, who lives in the mind of a first-year student who does not speak. “I’m also looking forward to seeing how Kapita will appear.” (Maaya Uchida)
It has been announced that voice actress Maaya Uchida will be making a “voice appearance” in the 8th episode (broadcast on December 7th) of Nippon Television’s local drama 9 “Hokago Karte” starring Kohei Matsushita.
This work is a human drama set in an elementary school, where Makino, a pediatrician with a big mouth and a big demeanor, played by Kohei Matsushita, uses his observational eyes to see through the “SOS that cannot be put into words” and supports the children as they head towards the future.
Maaya Uchida plays the character “Kapita, the capybara” who lives in the heart of Maa Tonosaki (Ema), a student in class 1 and 2.
Maa never speaks at school, and her mother Aya (Nonami Maho) and homeroom teacher Yoshino (Horan Chiaki) are worried about her every day. Meanwhile, the school doctor Makino (Kohei Matsushita) discovers that he is suffering from selective mutism. “Selective mutism” is an anxiety disorder in which a person is unable to speak in social situations. Her mother, Aya, is shocked, but learns that although Maa wants to get along with her classmates, she is deeply conflicted and unable to express her feelings.
The character Kapita, voiced by Uchida, is the only person in the story who expresses that feeling of true love. Maai’s invisible feelings are expressed through her conversation with Kapita, adding color to the drama.
Furthermore, in episode 8, it will be interesting to see how Makino, an unfriendly doctor, deals with the small inner voice of Maa, a first-year student who does not speak. Will we see a new side of Makino’s growth?
■Maaya Uchida comment
When I read the script, I thought it was a work with very delicate parts. I think it’s a drama that can be viewed from a variety of perspectives, such as if you are the person with the problem, or if you are the person watching over them, so I hope many people will watch it.
When playing Kapita, I wanted him to not be scary. I wouldn’t want him to suddenly appear and disturb Maa-chan’s heart. I played the role while thinking that I wanted to be someone that Maa-chan could open up to, and that I wanted to be close to Maa-chan. In fact, I was careful to speak with kindness and emotion, so as not to turn into a bad guy who has an ego and is trying to control Maa-chan.
I’m also looking forward to seeing how Kapita will appear in the completed drama. I also sang a song, so I hope you can see Kapita’s performance.
